Viewers of Vanderpump Rules were probably not surprised to see Jax Taylor and Kristen Doute having a disagreement on The Valley series premiere.

On the debut episode that aired on Tuesday, March 19, Kristen, who is 41 years old, updated viewers on what she has been up to since they last saw her on television.

I had a beautiful home in Valley Village for about two and a half years. During that time, I was dating my ex-boyfriend Alex [Menache]. He suggested that I sell my house and move in with him. Eventually, after breaking up seven times in five months, he asked me to leave and I ended up moving into an apartment.

Not long after the breakup, I found love with Luke Broderick. Just two weeks after my difficult breakup, I attended a wedding where Luke was one of the groomsmen. He's sweet, kind, and funny. We shared a special moment behind a tent, and the rest is history.

Kristen shared that she and Luke, who is 33 years old, are putting effort into growing their family even though they are in a long-distance relationship. Kristen resides in Los Angeles, while Luke travels from his hometown in Colorado to visit her.

After seeing my friends getting married, having babies, and expanding their families, I couldn't help but think, "I'm the oldest girl in the group. When will it be my turn?" I shared with the cameras, "We've been in a long-distance relationship, but he's decided to spend the summer in the Valley with me because we want to start a family and try for a baby."

Not everyone in Kristen’s life agreed with her plans. Jax, who is 44 years old, expressed his concerns multiple times during the episode. While hanging out with the guys, Jax and Luke had an awkward moment when Luke inquired about whether Jax still had him blocked on social media.

Jax’s estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, also provided her perspective on the situation.

Brittany, 35, recalled how Jax completely ignored Luke whenever he was present. She mentioned that during their trip to Mexico in 2022 for Scheana Shay's wedding, Jax was particularly impolite and their relationship was strained.

In a conversation with Luke, Jax inquired about Kristen's intentions regarding starting a family, questioning if it was for genuine reasons.

Jax expressed his concern about the well-being of having a child out of wedlock, mentioning the challenges that may arise. He shared that he knew from Brittany's friends' experiences that raising a child alone comes with responsibilities like full-time jobs, health insurance, school, bills, and food. It can all be overwhelming.

Luke understood the pressure Kristen was under due to being the oldest girl in their friend group. Despite this, he remained optimistic about their dedication to their future child.

He mentioned that we both share the belief that we are providing the child with the best possible life, regardless of anything else. To him, this is more significant than a ring and a wedding.

In a later scene, Jax expressed his concerns about Kristen and Luke's decisions. He particularly doubted if Kristen made the right choice.

"He claimed that she was trying to get pregnant a week before she broke up with Alex. While he wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt, he couldn't shake the feeling that there would be an 'I told you so' moment. According to him, he is rarely wrong about these things.

Jax, who confessed that he didn't even know Luke's last name, expressed his belief that Luke was in a difficult situation. He shared his concerns with former Vanderpump Rules costar Lala Kent when she made a special appearance."

Parenting can be challenging, and I believe she should take some time to consider if she is fully prepared for it. It's important to choose a partner who is committed to staying in Los Angeles. Lala, 33, who is currently not on good terms with Kristen, nodded in agreement.

Lala jokingly commented that she thinks her friend throws her love around so much that it turns into diamonds. She playfully teased, "She's like a pro at collecting them, dude. I've been searching for a man for ages, and she's had ten in the past two years." Lala, who shares a daughter named Ocean with her ex-fiancé Randall Emmett, is currently expecting her second child through IUI.

As Jax continued to talk about Kristen with their friends, Lala decided to include Kristen in the conversation. Jax expressed his concerns to Kristen, mentioning that he wasn't sure if she was emotionally ready to have a child at the moment.

"Who are you to judge if I'm ready to be a mom or what kind of mother I would be? I have been mentally prepared for a long time," she told him. Then, in a more candid moment, Kristen suggested that Jax should simply ignore her.

Reflecting on her past relationship, Kristen shared that she believed she was ready to become a mother. However, she also realized that her ex-partner was not the right person to start a family with. On the other hand, Jax disagreed with her perspective.

Jax claimed that you were at my house, urging Alex to ejaculate inside you. He said he witnessed it himself. And then, a week later, you two ended your relationship.

Kristen became upset by Jax's actions towards her after over ten years of friendship.

She mentioned that just because she doesn't share all the details of her relationship with her boyfriend, it doesn't mean they don't have those conversations. She questioned why she would be in a relationship, thinking about marriage and having a child, if they were just going to break up.

Before leaving, Kristen asked Jax for his support. She expressed to the cameras that he was now a changed person, the one who could give her life advice on growing up.

Kristen and Luke have openly discussed their desire to start a family ever since they made their relationship public in 2022. In a November 2023 episode of their podcast "Sex, Love and What Else Matters," the couple shared that Kristen experienced a "nonviable pregnancy" which unfortunately led to a miscarriage. They have been providing updates on their journey to conceive in more recent podcast episodes.
