Destiny 2's Season 22 will introduce exciting additions to its Crucible content. This includes a Vex Network themed map, a fresh game mode called Relic, and a modifier named Checkmate that emphasizes primary weapons.
In a recent blog post, Joe Blackburn, the Game Director of Destiny 2, offers players a glimpse into what lies ahead, including an upcoming ritual system called Pathfinder. August is already shaping up to be an exciting month for fans of Destiny 2. Season 22 is just a few weeks away, alongside the highly anticipated Final Shape showcase. This showcase is not only expected to unveil new story moments but also confirm the introduction of Destiny 2's third and final darkness subclass.
Furthermore, August also saw a much-needed State of the Game blog post from Joe Blackburn, the director of Destiny 2. This post covers a wide range of topics, providing updates on ritual activities, quality of life improvements, stability and security insights, and even offering a sneak preview of what Bungie has in store. While some of this content will be showcased at The Final Shape Showcase in a couple of weeks, Blackburn also reveals a few exciting new features, including a new ritual activity called Pathfinder.
Earlier in the year before the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall, Bungie teased upcoming changes to ritual-based content such as Vanguard Strikes, Gambit, and Crucible. These changes center around a new system called Pathfinder, which replaces some of the activity's bounties with a more rewarding tree-style approach. Although Blackburn doesn't provide specific details, the work-in-progress UI image showcases a branching system where players need to complete nodes in order to progress towards the engram located at the end.
The tentatively named Pathfinder system, originally planned for a debut in 2023, has been delayed by Bungie to coincide with the release of The Final Shape. Recent details revealed in Blackburn's blog indicate that players will be able to access the Pathfinder system directly from the Destiny 2 Director screen. However, the exact implementation of this system replacing core ritual bounties is still being determined.
Destiny 2 fans who have been eagerly awaiting updates on the Crucible will be pleased to know that Season 22 brings exciting new content. Not only have mechanics been altered, but there is also a considerable amount of fresh Crucible content to look forward to. This includes a visually striking Vex Network inspired map called Multiplex, a unique game mode called Relic, and a primary weapons-focused modifier known as Checkmate.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
