Nick Offerman, star of HBO's The Last of Us, earned his first Emmy for his role as Bill and shared that a prequel series about the post-apocalyptic romance of Bill and Frank is in the works. Offerman revealed to Deadline that there are plenty of ideas for a series exploring the lives of Bill and Frank before their love story played out, and he looks forward to seeing what the show's creators come up with.
Offerman received his first Emmy award for his portrayal of Bill in The Last of Us, winning the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. Originally, the role of Bill had been assigned to Con O'Neill, but due to scheduling conflicts, it went to Offerman instead. In the episode "Long, Long Time," Murray Bartlett portrayed Frank, showcasing the beginning and growth of the unlikely love story between Bill and Frank in a fan-favorite flashback episode. The episode earned high praises from both fans and critics, with director Steven Spielberg even sending a letter to The Last of Us' Craig Mazin to specifically commend the episode.
The Last Of Us made a clean sweep at the Creative Arts Emmys, with Offerman's win and Storm Reid's victory for Guest Actress in a Drama series. The show also clinched awards for visual effects, sound editing, makeup, and more.
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to start filming in February, featuring the return of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. Pascal was nominated for Best Actor in a TV Drama, but the award went to Kieran Culkin from Succession. In his acceptance speech, Culkin humorously taunted, "Suck it, Pedro."
Editor's P/S
As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled about the news of a potential prequel show focusing on Frank and Bill from HBO's The Last of Us. The love story between these two characters was one of the most touching and memorable parts of the first season, and I can't wait to learn more about their lives before they met. I think it's a great idea to explore their backgrounds and how they came to be the people they were when we first met them in the show.
I also appreciate that Nick Offerman is so enthusiastic about the prequel series and is looking forward to seeing what the creators come up with. It's clear that he has a deep connection to the character of Bill and is excited to continue exploring his story. I'm confident that he and the rest of the cast and crew will do an amazing job of bringing Frank and Bill's prequel story to life.
