Why Owning a Pet in Honkai: Star Rail is Key to Crushing the Competition

Honkai: Star Rail has already introduced a range of captivating characters since its launch in April. In the latest update, Version 1.1, players can now acquire the five-star Quantum-element character, Silver Wolf, through gacha pulls. Additionally, the five-star banner character, Luocha, and the four-star Yukong will make their debut in the latter half of Version 1.1. Fans of Honkai: Star Rail can look forward to encountering even more playable characters in the future, as evidenced by the extensive character leaks. Some avid HoYoverse enthusiasts have also been requesting the addition of pet companions to the game.

HoYoverse's History With Pets

Peppy and Diting are two lovable pets introduced in Honkai: Star Rail. Asta's dog, Peppy, can be found hanging out at Herta Space Station while Tingyun's mini dragon, Diting, resides at Xianzhou Luofu. While these adorable creatures can only accompany players during select missions and are not unlockable companions, players can still enjoy petting and playing with Peppy. Many players have been calling for pet companions that can follow them around, and Honkai: Star Rail's Wubaboos, Jing Yuan's huge lion, and other creatures have only fueled this desire. This concept of pet companions is not new to HoYoverse games, as games like Genshin Impact have already introduced Mini Seelie variants that can accompany players on their quests. Additionally, while Honkai Impact 3rd has yet to add pets, some players have taken to considering the Dorm Robots their companions, given their faces and variety of colors.

Although not considered traditional pets, these decorative and furniture items still hold a special place in the hearts of many players due to their adorable appearances. They provide a sense of companionship as they accompany players during missions or while relaxing at their home base.

Improving Pet Companions

Adding pet companions to Honkai: Star Rail could be a great feature if HoYoverse decides to implement it. To make it even better, these pets could buff the characters' stats or assist them in combat. This upgrade would be particularly useful during challenging battles, such as the higher levels in the Simulation Universe. A perfect example of this mechanic can be found in League of Legends, where Jungle Pets come in three different variants with unique abilities to help junglers defeat monsters and earn gold and EXP. Furthermore, these pets evolve and become stronger over time, making them an invaluable asset to any team.

Peppy and Diting both possess the ability to locate certain individuals through the scent of their possessions, but Diting's unique surveillance skill grants players the ability to observe the person's path. Peppy, on the other hand, functions as a regular guard dog that players can follow. If equipped, the duo could aid players in discovering hidden treasures and potentially even increase the yield of enemy drops. Wubaboos, with their large numbers, could serve as powerful combat companions, swarming enemies and whittling down their health during battle. Similarly, Silver Wolf's chibi AI companions could deal damage over time, reflecting their master's Path of Nihility.

It's worth noting that while Honkai: Star Rail offers a range of options for pet companions, it's unclear whether HoYoverse has any plans to introduce this feature in the future. The latest release of Version 1.1 has been met with some delays, including the highly anticipated Honkai: Star Rail Friend Chat function, which may mean that players will have to wait for a few more updates before pets are added to the game. Honkai Star Rail is currently available on Mobile and PC, with versions for PS4 and PS5 currently in development.
