Having released the original Destiny in September 2014, Bungie launched Destiny 2 in 2017. As the franchise approaches its tenth anniversary, The Final Shape promises players a climactic showdown with the Witness, a formidable wielder of darkness who serves as Destiny's primary antagonist. While The Final Shape won't mark the end of Destiny 2, it is anticipated to resolve many unresolved plotlines and long-standing story arcs. Furthermore, some interpret this expansion as an indication of Bungie's shift in focus towards the forthcoming Marathon reboot.
Bungie made an official announcement during the Destiny 2: The Final Shape livestream showcase, introducing the Collector's Edition. This special edition includes various items such as an Autograph book, digital soundtrack, Vanguard Mission Dossier, Vanguard Patch, Vanguard Missions Patch, three Vanguard Mentor Figurines, and a code for an exclusive in-game emblem. The standout feature of the Collector's Edition is a detailed replica of The Tower from Destiny 1, complete with lights and sound effects.
The three mentor figures, designed like chess pieces, represent Cayde-6, Commander Zavala, and Ikora Rey. It is noteworthy that Cayde-6 will make a return in The Final Shape, potentially adding an intriguing aspect to this edition. In a particular moment of the video, Cayde-6's figure is seen placed on the Tower, illuminated by the model's LED lights in a dramatic manner. Although it remains uncertain if the figures have any interactive features when placed on the model, the video hints at magnetic locks and other hidden surprises.
Bungie's Consumer Products Manager, Chris Hausermann, and Art Director, Shiek Wang, delved into the purpose behind the creation of Destiny 2: The Final Shape Collector's Edition. Hausermann expressed his team's deep-seated desire to create a masterpiece that encompassed the momentous journey of the last decade in Destiny. The Tower emerged as the most fitting representation of this saga. Wang further elucidated this concept by highlighting The Tower's significance as a cherished abode for Destiny enthusiasts. While the original Destiny 1 Tower met its demise during the Red War, it undeniably remains a timeless emblem within the franchise.
