Highlights
Destiny 2's Season of the Witch set the stage for the rest of the year, leading up to The Dawning and Festival of the Lost which brings new features and changes.
In response to player requests, the Infinite Forest will not be returning in the Festival of the Lost due to complications caused by the vaulting of Mercury. However, this year's festival will feature exciting additions including a new game mode, new weapons, and an exclusive method for obtaining focused loot.
Introducing Legend Haunted Sectors and Eerie Engrams, players will have the opportunity to explore and conquer Legend Haunted Sectors while wearing Masks in order to obtain exclusive loot. Additionally, Eerie Engrams can be obtained from both regular and legend haunted sectors, providing players with options to focus on acquiring Exotic armor pieces and Festival of the Lost weapons through Hocus Focusing.
Destiny 2's Season of the Witch debuted in late August, striving to weave a darker narrative leading up to The Final Shape. Drawing upon the menacing Hive elements, the season seamlessly incorporated them into this year's Festival of the Lost. While the story of Season of the Witch was compelling, some felt that it fell short in its execution, particularly the finale. Nevertheless, the season adeptly set the tone for the upcoming months until The Dawning, and Festival of the Lost appears more promising than ever, thanks to its exciting new features and changes.
Although players have expressed a desire for the return of the long-lost Infinite Forest as the main attraction in Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost seasonal event, there may be complications with that concept, considering that it was located on Mercury, which has been vaulted with Beyond Light. However, this year's rendition of the Festival of the Lost appears to have exceeded expectations, introducing a fresh game mode, new weapons, an exclusive type of Engram, and even a unique method for focusing loot from Eva Levante in The Tower.

The game's seasonal Halloween-inspired event this year introduces several new elements. While there may be additional changes and features in Destiny 2 beyond what has been announced in the most recent This Week In Destiny (TWID) post, the current lineup comprises:
- Legend Haunted Sectors
Eerie Engrams
Hocus Focusing (including weapons and Exotic armor pieces)
A Festival of the Lost exclusive Memento
New Eververse cosmetic items, including the new FotL armor set
Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost 2023 Explained
The inclusion of Legend Haunted Sectors in Destiny 2's Festival of the Lost implies that players will need to create powerful builds while using the event's signature Masks. Legend Haunted Sectors are similar to regular Legend Lost Sectors, but with a Festival of the Lost twist. In order to obtain the exclusive loot from these sectors, players must wear one of the iconic Masks, including the new Eerie Engrams, which are an integral part of the experience. While details about Legend Haunted Sectors are not confirmed, it is likely that players will encounter enemies at a certain Power Level, potentially including Champions and Headless Ones as bosses.
Eerie Engrams are a new type of loot that will be introduced during the 2023 Festival of the Lost. According to the TWID post, these Engrams will drop from both regular Haunted Sectors and Legend Haunted Sectors, with the latter resulting in more frequent drops. Players can choose to open Eerie Engrams immediately or save them until they have acquired enough Candy in the Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost event to engage in Hocus Focusing. This will provide players with multiple options. In terms of Exotic armor pieces, players can spend 2500 Candy and one Eerie Engram per focusing attempt.
Players can obtain any Exotic in Destiny 2, regardless of whether they own it or not, as long as they have the corresponding expansion. For Festival of the Lost weapons, players can focus on a random weapon for one Eerie Engram and 500 Candy, or choose a specific weapon for one Eerie Engram and 1000 Candy. In addition, players can acquire an exclusive Memento that can be applied to crafted weapons in Destiny 2, giving them a sleek black and dark brown shader. It is unclear if this is the only way to obtain the Memento, but the TWID post suggests that it may randomly drop from Eerie Engrams. Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
