The Final Shape marks the end of Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga, immersing players in the enigmatic core of the Traveler. With its release in February 2024, this expansion will revolutionize the game structure by replacing seasons with captivating episodes that unveil fresh narratives.
Bungie has recently announced that Destiny 2 will be reintroducing several exotic items from the first game. This exciting news was unveiled during the developer's annual Destiny 2 live stream, alongside the official unveiling of the upcoming expansion, The Final Shape.
During the Destiny Showcase, the release date for The Final Shape expansion was confirmed, and players were given a first look at the story that will conclude Destiny 2's Light and Darkness saga. This thrilling expansion will take Guardians on a journey into the heart of the Traveler, the enigmatic orb that has been present in the world of Destiny since its inception. The Final Shape will bring back beloved characters from the franchise and introduce new exotic weapons to enhance the gameplay experience.
The upcoming Tessellation exotic fusion rifle is set to be the latest addition to the live service game. Bungie has also confirmed that players will have the opportunity to unlock weapons from the original Destiny, including the Dragon's Breath Exotic Rocket Launcher, the Khvostov Exotic Auto Rifle, and the Red Death. While the specific changes to each weapon between the two games are currently unknown, players can expect to find out when they are released alongside The Final Shape on February 27, 2024.
Fans got a sneak peek of these weapons in the expansion's reveal trailer and are likely to be thrilled to see their return in the game. This isn't the first time Bungie has reintroduced beloved weapons from the original Destiny. In 2021, as part of the celebrations for Bungie's 30th anniversary, the Gjallarhorn exotic made its way into Destiny 2, much to the delight of gamers.
While players eagerly await the release of these coveted original Destiny exotics, Destiny 2 Season 22 is already underway. In a nostalgic nod to the franchise's origins, the beloved Crota's End raid from the first entry will make its triumphant return on September 1st. This iconic raid, first introduced in the Dark Below expansion back in 2015, invites Guardians to brave the depths of the Moon as they combat relentless waves of Thrall enemies and secure valuable equipment.
As Destiny 2 enters its seventh year, gamers can anticipate exciting changes on the horizon. The Destiny Showcase also revealed that seasons will be replaced with Episodes upon the launch of The Final Shape. Rather than four seasons annually, players can expect three Episodes, each lasting four months, that will introduce compelling new narratives unfolding after the events of The Final Shape expansion. The inaugural Episode is set to kick off during the final week of February 2024.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
