Destiny 2's latest season has seen a range of updates to weapons and armor, with the Stronghold exotic armor being one of the most overlooked. However, a recent video from a Titan player has showcased just how much more powerful this armor piece has become. In a game where certain gear dominates due to sandbox or design advantages, Stronghold has often been overlooked in favor of more versatile options. Nonetheless, the newest rework may change this, as it makes Stronghold a more attractive choice for Titan players.
Originally introduced in Season of the Drifter, Stronghold was one of three new exotic gauntlets, each assigned to a different player class. The original version of Stronghold allowed players to move faster while guarding with a sword, with the added bonus that guarding did not use up ammo and could heal the player if they timed it correctly. However, the armor's design made it a very niche exotic, with most Titan players opting for gauntlets such as Ursa Furiosa, Synthoceps, or Citan's Ramparts, due to their ease of use and effectiveness in both solo play and team settings.
A Reddit user named _TOD_ recently shared a clip showcasing the dramatic changes made to the Stronghold gauntlets as part of Season of the Deep's exotic armor reworks. The gauntlets' healing perk was replaced with damage reduction while guarding, and restoration x2 was added, which triggers after a player stops guarding and lasts for a duration based on the number of shots blocked. _TOD_'s clip demonstrates how the damage reduction alone can transform a Titan into an almost indestructible wall, drawing aggro from enemies with ease. The clip has received a mixed response among users, with many expressing shock and amazement at the Titan's ability to tank so many enemies without sustaining significant damage. In the comments, _TOD_ explains that he used the re-released Throne-Cleaver sword from Season of Defiance, which provided additional damage reduction on top of Stronghold's due to its aggressive frame archetype. The combination allows a Titan player to withstand attacks from enemies for a brief period without losing any health, albeit at a slow pace.
With the impressive performance of swords, particularly the exclusive Throne-Cleaver for Titans, the damage reduction combo has elevated the appeal of Stronghold among players. While some may criticize the limited design of this exotic armor, the success of _TOD_ in tanking suggests that it could inspire others to explore similar builds in endgame activities. Destiny 2 is accessible on various platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
