During an episode of their “Golden Hour” podcast, Noles and her fellow The Golden Bachelor costar Kathy Swarts openly discussed the separation. They shared the conversation on Instagram. In response to a user's question on why the couple broke up so quickly, Noles replied, “Neither one of them can leave their families.”

Theresa and Gerry had a disagreement about her job weeks before they decided to separate. Theresa mentioned on a March episode of the “Dear Shandy” podcast that her job was causing tension in their relationship. She expressed, "I still work, so that’s the hurdle."

Another possible reason for The Golden Bachelor couple's breakup may have been due to their differing lifestyles. According to podcast host Kate Casey, she received information from a source who knows Gerry's youngest granddaughter through her son's girlfriend.

Casey mentioned in an episode of her "Reality Life With Kate Casey" podcast shared on Instagram that the reason for the divorce was because Gerry felt that his wife was too "uppity" for him. He cited examples such as her refusal to pump gas and her dislike for his living location. Casey pointed out that in New Jersey, it is actually against the law for individuals to pump their own gas, as attendants are required to do it for them.
