In Honkai: Star Rail, if players focus on the primary Trailblazer Mission, they will encounter the first Malefic Ape in the A Dragon Gallant, Its Ocean Distant mission while attempting to remove the three Vidyadhara Seals.
However, besides encountering this enemy in the main mission, the Malefic Ape can also be found in other content such as Forgotten Hall, Simulated Universe, or as a guardian for valuable Chest boxes. It is important for players to have a good understanding of how to defeat the Malefic Ape in Honkai: Star Rail due to the new mechanics it brings.
How To Beat Malefic Ape In Honkai: Star Rail
Enemy | Weakness | Toughness |
---|---|---|
Abundance Sprite: Malefic Ape | Fire, Ice, Wind | 360 |
Abundance Sprite: Wooden Lupus | Fire, Wind, Imaginary | 90 |
Shadow Jackhyena | Fire, Wind, Imaginary | 60 |
Abundance Sprite: Golden Hound | Ice, Lightning, Quantum | 90 |
In Honkai: Star Rail, the Malefic Ape possesses the capability to inflict substantial damage on a single target. However, players can effectively counter its attacks by comprehending the Monitoring mechanics. Within the Simulated Universe, this powerful adversary exists as a solitary Elite boss, whereas in the open-world, the Ape is accompanied by two additional Abundance Sprites.
In the beginning of the battle, Malefic Ape unleashes Wrathful Roar, which gives it three stacks of Gusto and designates a random target for Monitoring. From there, whenever a character uses a Skill, the Monitoring will shift to focus on that character. However, if a Basic Attack or Ultimate is utilized, the focus will remain unchanged.
When it is the boss' turn, it will activate its Enhancing ability and swiftly move to attack the Monitored target. This action consumes one Gusto. Once all three Gusto stacks are used up, Malefic Ape must cast Wrathful Roar again before repeating the sequence. Due to its self-enhancement capabilities, the Malefic Ape can inflict significant damage on vulnerable or fragile units. Therefore, players should carefully strategize when using their Skills.
Please pay attention to the turn sequence displayed in the top-left corner of the screen. Note the characters that move before the Malefic Ape and decide who should take damage. Make sure that the chosen unit is the only one using Skill, while the others focus on Basic Attack.
Alternatively, players can also choose to protect the last Skill-caster. For example, if March 7th, Asta, and Yanqing move before the Ape, and the Trailblazers want to use Yanqing's Skill, they can ensure her protection by having March use a shield on her turn.
The remaining Abundance Sprites should not be a cause for concern since they do not inflict significant damage. However, getting rid of them will certainly eliminate certain obstacles. The following are noteworthy actions performed by each minion:
Wooden Lupus: Summons 1 Shadow Jackhyena.
Shadow Jackhyena only has Lightning DMG abilities and will not disappear even if Wooden Lupus is defeated. It is advised to prioritize targeting the Lupus first.
Once Golden Hound is defeated, the ally positioned next to it will immediately take a turn. This means that the Malefic Ape will move right away, so players should exercise caution when eliminating this opponent. Mishandling the situation could lead to their DPS being knocked out by the Ape's Monitor ability.
Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is in development.
