During its showcase event, Bungie surprised players by unveiling new super abilities for the Arc, Void, and Solar subclasses in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, set to release next year. The appeal of Destiny 2 lies in the power fantasy it offers players, transforming their characters into sci-fi space wizards capable of harnessing the powers of electricity, fire, and ice. While the original game and the current title started with just Arc, Solar, and Void abilities, Destiny 2 has continued to grow and evolve, introducing Strand and Stasis abilities as well.
In recent expansions like Beyond Light and Lightfall, players have come to expect new abilities, leading to speculations about the addition of a third darkness power to even out the Light and Darkness abilities to three each. However, based on Bungie's latest showcase event, it appears that this will not be happening at this time.
During the Final Shape showcase, Design Lead Eric Smith and Art Director Dave Samuel unveiled three groundbreaking light-based super abilities. Accessing the enhanced energy within the Pyramid, players gain new powers to unleash. The first ability may ring a bell for veteran Warlock players as it draws inspiration from Radiance. However, in this iteration, players can unleash a barrage of solar projectiles, execute twice the number of melee strikes, and transform their grenade into a nimble phoenix that seeks out enemies and bounces between them. Excitingly, activating this super not only empowers nearby allies' weapons but also grants them a solar orb when standing within a rift.
Titans acquire an enhanced void super called Twilight Arsenal, enabling them to soar into the skies and unleash a trio of colossal axes as a projectile. These axes possess a unique ability to attract and draw in adversaries before detonating, but instead of disappearing, they persist and can be retrieved by allied Destiny 2 players for utilization as a formidable melee weapon. Alternatively, by employing a new aspect, the grenade can transform into a formidable shield that grows stronger with each instance of damage endured, culminating in a devastating outward blast.
At Hunters, a new super arc is introduced. Instead of simply throwing a knife at enemies, the Hunter warps to the location where the knife lands, picking it up and releasing a destructive electropulse that annihilates enemies in the surrounding area. Additionally, Hunters gain an aspect that creates a vertical arc staff burst, boosting the player and nearby allies.
Along with these new super abilities, The Final Shape expansion introduces a fresh enemy known as the Subjugator. Although resembling Rhulk to some extent, the Subjugator plays a supportive role on the battlefield. Equipped with Strand and Stasis abilities, as indicated by their armor and coloration, they employ ice crystals or strand tangles to impede and slow down players.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
