Pokemon GO features a wide range of Pokemon with diverse types, appearances, and abilities. Among them, the Legendary Pokemon stand out as exceedingly rare, often being exclusively obtainable for a limited timeframe.
Acquiring these elusive Legendaries poses a challenge when aiming to complete the Pokedex. Consequently, many Pokemon GO enthusiasts opt to trade with their friends. Luckily, it is possible to trade Legendaries, providing an excellent opportunity to fill those vexing Pokedex gaps.
Trading Legendary Pokemon can be expensive in terms of Stardust, varying in impact depending on the individual player. The trade cost is influenced by the specific Pokemon being traded and the level of friendship between the trading parties. Below, we will explore the required amount of Stardust for trading Legendaries and strategies to lower this cost, making such trades more affordable.

How Much Stardust To Trade Legendary Pokemon
The initial cost of trading Legendaries is 1,000,000 Stardust, which can be significantly reduced to 20,000 if the recipient already has the Legendary Pokemon registered in their Pokedex. Moreover, as players strengthen their friendship, the cost of trading will further decrease.
Here's a handy chart, with "Registered" and "New" being applicable to the player receiving the Legendary:
Friendship Level | Registered | New | |
---|---|---|---|
Good Friends ♥ | 20,000 | 1,000,000 | |
Great Friends ♥♥ | 16,000 | 800,000 | |
Ultra Friends ♥♥♥ | 1,600 | 80,000 | |
Best Friends ♥♥♥♥ | 800 | 40,000 |
Unregistered Pokemon include alternate forms or event costumes that the receiving player has not obtained yet, such as different forms of Giratina or Armored Mewtwo.
Sometimes, time-limited events provide friendship-related advantages. On rare occasions, the trade price may be discounted, so be sure to stay alert.
Special Trades
Players can only make one Special Trade per day. These Special Trades are any of the following:
Unregistered Pokemon
Legendaries
Ultra Beasts
Shiny Pokemon
Unregistered forms or costumed Pokemon
During some special events, the Special Trade limit is lifted, allowing for multiple per day.
While these prices may seem harsh, they are helpful if an account is compromised and someone attempted to steal its Pokemon away.
Pokemon That Cannot Be Traded
While most Legendary Pokemon can be exchanged between trainers, Mythical Pokemon are specifically excluded from any trading activities. However, there are two exceptions to this principle, namely Meltan and Melmetal. Thus, the current roster of Pokemon that are untradeable encompasses the following species:
