Exotic Bows hold a special position in Destiny 2's current meta. However, there is a consensus among players that two out of the seven bows have fallen behind and require attention from Bungie to bring them up to par. Combat Bows, introduced in the Forsaken expansion, offer greater single-target damage at longer distances. Just like other Exotic weapons in Destiny 2, Exotic Bows come with unique perks that facilitate synergistic gameplay with specific builds and powerful subclass abilities to obliterate enemies.
Champions, introduced in the Shadowkeep expansion, have consistently posed a threat on the battlefield, even for seasoned guardians. Defeating these elite foes requires players to engage specific mechanics to weaken them before dealing damage. Initially, anti-Champion capabilities were limited to seasonal artifact mods, which restricted the weapons players could bring into challenging endgame content. The developers expanded on this system in Lightfall by incorporating innate anti-Champion abilities into certain Exotic weapons. As a result, these revamped Exotics have become more popular for endgame activities. For instance, the Exotic Bow Wish-Ender's anti-Barrier perk has been used to exploit certain difficult Destiny 2 bosses.
However, not all Exotic Bows have undergone the balance changes implemented with Lightfall's update. Some players believe that it's time for those weapons to be reintroduced. A Reddit user known as N1CKP1R35 highlighted the unintended weakening of the Hierarchy of Needs Exotic Bow due to the removal of Warmind Cells. Warmind Cells were a beloved mechanic introduced in the Season of the Worthy, exclusive to Seraph and other weapons created by Warmind Rasputin. The player then suggested that the weapon should be granted anti-Barrier capabilities to compensate for the nerf, which has received a positive response.
A few players have proposed that the Exotic should scorch targets when firing arrows through the Guidance Ring created by its Exotic perk. Others have suggested bringing back a modified version of Warmind Cells specifically for this Exotic. Many players have mentioned that Ticuu's Divination Exotic has fallen behind with the introduction of stronger weapons and the Legendary-exclusive Incandescent perk. As a solution, they have recommended enhancing the underperforming Exotic with improved Solar 3.0 abilities, such as Scorch, which is relied upon in many Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 builds for additional advantages.
There are mixed opinions regarding the performance of the Hierarchy of Needs in endgame encounters. Some players believe it is adequate and does not require significant reworks, while others think that both Exotic Bows could benefit from a balance adjustment by Bungie. The developers are currently prioritizing the improvement of other Destiny 2 Exotics in the mid-Season patch, so any potential reworks for additional Exotic weapons will be delayed.
Destiny 2 can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
