In a recent Destiny 2 clip, the effectiveness of gear obtained from the Red War campaign is put to the test in the game's current sandbox. Since the Red War, several expansions have been released over the span of six years, during which Guardians have worked to rebuild their home near the old Tower. Year 1 of Destiny 2 saw Guardians defending against the Cabal Red Legion led by Dominus Ghaul during the Red War campaign, but subsequent years brought new threats that resulted in significant changes to the power level and gear systems. To help Guardians tackle these new challenges, Bungie's development team introduced new features, subclasses, and gear.
The Red War campaign's common gear provided a meager power level of 208 for Smelly_Old_Hat's Warlock, leaving them vulnerable with maximum cooldown times and zero resilience. As a result, low-level Fallen Shank enemies in the Cosmodrome quickly dispatched them, and the player was unable to inflict any damage. Even with a minor power increase from Season of the Deep's seasonal artifact, the player's power level would still be under 200 without it. While the artifact's power boost is mostly beneficial for players nearing the seasonal and pinnacle power level cap, it is inconsequential for those at such a low power level.
The recent Destiny 2 clip sheds light on the impracticality of using Red War gear in Year 6's PvE content, which was introduced with the Lightfall expansion. Although this gear set can still be used in Crucible playlists where power levels are not a concern, players may face issues with lengthy ability cooldown times due to the lack of stat boosts.
As players eagerly anticipate the final chapter of the "Light and Darkness" saga in The Final Shape expansion, browsing through classic Red gear may evoke a sense of nostalgia. Fans can look forward to Bungie revealing more information about Cayde-6's return and The Final Shape in August.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
