Although the majority of Final Fantasy 16's superior weapons can only be obtained through crafting, there are a few that can be discovered in treasure chests. Valisthea is filled with countless of these chests, yet players might encounter difficulties in locating the one containing the Ancient Sword. This particular chest can be easily overlooked, particularly if players choose to skip the Live and Let Live side quest.
Where To Find The Ancient Sword In Final Fantasy 16
Before players can acquire the Ancient Sword, they must first complete the thirty-second main quest, "Out of the Shadow," in Final Fantasy 16. Upon completion, the Onward main quest will commence, as Clive embarks on a journey to Boklad, a new area situated in The Dhalmekian Republic's northeast corner. Once players gain access to this region, the thrilling hunt for the Ancient Sword will commence.
Players who have already activated the Boklad Obelisk are able to conveniently fast-travel to that location and proceed further south into The Steps of the Forgotten. Rather than departing from this area, Clive should navigate towards the center and turn towards the right, facing the southwest. Here, he will encounter a modest hill that can be ascended. Upon reaching the top and approaching the adjacent wall, he will be prompted to climb into a completely new region. It is worth noting that players who have successfully completed the Live and Let Live side quest might be acquainted with this particular area, albeit potentially overlooking the presence of a treasure chest containing the highly coveted Ancient Sword.

After scaling this wall, Clive will come face to face with a treasure chest positioned directly in front. Upon engaging with it, an exceptional prize awaits Clive - the Ancient Sword, a highly coveted weapon hidden within Final Fantasy 16.
With a formidable Attack and Stagger rating of 252, the Ancient Sword comes remarkably close to the mighty Excalibur, falling short by a mere 16 points. As a viable alternative for players who have not yet obtained Excalibur, it proves to be quite handy. However, it should be noted that its power pales in comparison, particularly during the demanding Onward main quest.
To make matters worse, players have the option to craft the Excalibur even before visiting Boklad, making the addition of the Ancient Sword to Clive's arsenal seem unnecessary. However, the description of the Ancient Sword does provide a brief insight into the age of the Fallen, making it a potential choice for players interested in Valisthea's history.
Unfortunately, the Ancient Sword cannot be Reinforced to enhance its strength. Instead, players can increase its power by equipping Clive with different accessories or having him consume a Strength Tonic. The Genji Gloves accessory boosts damage dealt to enemies by 5%, while the Badge of Might can increase Attack by either 7 or 12 points, depending on whether the accessory has been Reinforced or not.
