Highlights
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is part of the same continuity as Rocksteady's Arkhamverse despite differences in character appearances, suggesting possible retcons.
The game will showcase a sprawling Metropolis, an open-world environment, that is brimming with hidden surprises paying homage to each unique member of the Justice League. Additionally, there is the thrilling possibility of unearthing a concealed Batcave beneath the city. Balancing Batman nostalgia while showcasing other notable DC characters may pose a challenge for Rocksteady, but the prospect of Task Force X stumbling upon a Batcave in Metropolis, complete with familiar gadgets from the beloved Arkham games, would undoubtedly be exhilarating.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could have existed independently of Rocksteady's Arkhamverse had it not been explicitly confirmed. The characters, even those from previous Arkham games, have completely different appearances, leading fans to wonder if there have been significant changes to the canon. The only obvious connection between the Arkham games and Kill the Justice League so far is Arkham Asylum and its island. Despite the majority of the game taking place in Metropolis, there is a great opportunity to guide fans back to a familiar location.
Metropolis is undoubtedly an exciting new setting for Arkham fans to explore. It is still unclear what kind of activities will be available in this open world, considering Kill the Justice League is a horde shooter rather than an action-adventure game. However, there seems to be a wealth of dedicated Easter eggs that celebrate individual Justice League members. It is unlikely that players will be able to revisit Gotham City, but since Batman had a secret Batcave beneath Arkham Island, it is not far-fetched to imagine he might have one beneath Metropolis as well.
Rocksteady Should Take the Suicide Squad to a Batcave in Metropolis
Task Force X is set to receive interesting equipment from Gizmo, possibly under Amanda Waller's direction. Fans have caught glimpses of an evidence lockup inventory where the members of Task Force X select their primary gadgets and abilities for gameplay, like Captain Boomerang's Speed Force gauntlet. It's unclear where these items originated from, but it shows that Metropolis has a wide range of DC mythology inspirations.
Metropolis is a massive city that Rocksteady will hopefully devote meticulous attention to, just like they did with Gotham in Arkham City and Arkham Knight. This could mean including various set pieces that fans may not be aware of. Consequently, Rocksteady might face a challenge in balancing Batman nostalgia for Arkhamverse fans while accurately representing the other DC characters in Kill the Justice League.
It would be amazing if Task Force X accidentally discovered or were guided to Batman's secret Batcave hidden beneath Metropolis. This cave could serve as a backup plan and it would be thrilling to find out that Batman has more than one hideout, like the Batcave in Arkham Asylum. It would be exciting for players to uncover familiar gadgets from previous Arkham games, such as the Freeze Cluster or Sonic Batarangs.
Alternatively, it would be fantastic to have a segment where players navigate through this Batcave, even if it's not one they recognize from previous games. This Batcave could also showcase memorabilia from various villains, sparking discussions and comments among Task Force X members. However, if Batman himself were to lead them there, either to arm them or access the Batcomputer, that would be an incredible treat for fans. This could occur after freeing Batman from Brainiac's mind control in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League releases on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
