The Destiny 2 community is raving about the latest dungeon, Ghosts of the Deep, which revolves around the return of the Hive to Titan and their belief in the Darkness. However, a perceptive player has noticed a significant plot hole in the dungeon's central premise. While Ghosts of the Deep promises an endgame activity rich in lore, it doesn't align with previous events in the series, according to the player.
Players are tasked with investigating a surge in Hive activity under the waves of Titan's New Pacific Arcology, which is believed to be linked to Xivu Arath's growing influence in the game. However, they soon discover that the Hive gathering under the methane waves belong to Savathun's Lucent Brood and have found the remains of the former Taken King, Oryx, on the ocean floor. To prevent the Lucent Brood from using the Light to resurrect Oryx, Guardians must venture deeper and deeper beneath the waves.
Several Destiny 2 lore-focused creators, including MyNameIsByf, have applauded Bungie's efforts in crafting a compelling narrative for the dungeon. By drawing upon the deepest aspects of Hive lore, the dungeon's story has garnered praise from players. MyNameIsByf has specifically praised Bungie for incorporating enemies from the Taken King and Warmind expansions as Hive Guardians, adding to the richness of the game's lore. However, MyNameIsByf notes a significant plot hole that undermines the setup of the entire activity. The issue concerns Oryx's body, which is seen floating towards Saturn at the end of the King's Fall raid. This implies that Titan, the location of the dungeon, is not visible in the skybox for the final boss room, as it is on the other side of Saturn at the time players attack Oryx's throneworld. MyNameIsByf acknowledges that it is possible for the remains to have slingshot around the planet and end up on Titan, but personally finds it unlikely.
Despite the frequent appearance of plot holes in Destiny's world, Bungie's narrative team has been adept at addressing and filling them in. A recent Season of the Deep quest was particularly successful at answering questions about the Veil introduced in Lightfall. While the issue of Oryx's remains on Titan remains unresolved, it is possible that it may be addressed in the future, especially with the upcoming release of The Final Shape. Destiny 2 is currently accessible on multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X/S.
