The Witcher Star Teases Uncertainty of Game Persona Appearance – Find Out Why!

The Witcher's new star expresses uncertainty about the resemblance of his character in the Netflix fantasy series to the iconic portrayal seen in Projekt Red's beloved games

Hugh Skinner, who surprised fans by appearing as a video game character in The Witcher season 3, is uncertain about whether his character will bear any resemblance to his persona in the game.

In previous instances, Netflix's The Witcher has taken liberties with continuity compared to the source material. A prime example is the introduction of Radovid, the King of Rednania from the popular open-world game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in season 3. The character portrayed in the show is quite different from the game's portrayal of a despotic ruler who opposes magic. In the newest season of The Witcher, Jaskier becomes entangled in the political schemes of Philippa and Dijkstra, and encounters the Prince, who is second in line for the throne. This rendition of the character is a charming young man who connects with Jaskier on a deeply human level. They share vulnerability and ultimately embark on a love affair.

Skinner portrayed Radovid with great passion and empathy, leaving doubts about his future in The Witcher. However, in an interview with Screen Rant, Skinner confessed uncertainty about the authenticity of this particular version of Radovid and whether fans will witness his transformation into the formidable and dangerous leader depicted in the games. "I am unsure about my return or what lies ahead," Skinner explained. "Nevertheless, the initial discussions strongly hinted at this being just the beginning for him." Skinner further speculated that if his character were to make a comeback, he might resemble the Radovid from the game, as this season merely scratches the surface of his story.

Radovid's connection to his video game counterpart is limited to his name and location in Redania. Currently, he bears no resemblance to the character he becomes in the games. Surprisingly, Philippa, a powerful mage in The Witcher lore, discovers his adeptness at deception when she brings him along. Equally surprising is his emotional bond with Jaskier, which grows throughout the season. However, these developments deviate significantly from his portrayal in the games, and fans should heed Skinner's words. This is just the beginning of the story.

There are several signs suggesting that the version of Radovid fans currently see will not be the same person in the future. His skill in court politics should serve as the first warning that a happily-ever-after with Jaskier may not be in the cards. While everyone adores Jaskier and hopes for his happiness, it seems improbable that he will elope with a prince and spend their days together. The continent of The Witcher never follows the expected path, and Radovid's character in the games may offer a significant clue in that regard. Even if Skinner is uncertain of the character's ultimate direction, it's possible that Radovid will evolve into the most villainous figure in The Witcher by season 3.

The Witcher season 3, vol. 2, will air on July 27, 2023.
