However, this notion has been refuted by The Witcher producer Tomek Baginski during an interview with Polish publication Wyborcza.
“Many readers of the book tend to overlook the significant contribution made by Andrzej Sapkowski in the fifth volume of the saga," remarked Tomek, according to reliable sources from Redanian Intelligence. "In my opinion, this aspect holds immense importance within the entire narrative. I'm not referring to specific events, but rather to the narrative structure that was introduced in this particular book. Right from the beginning, we are confronted with the notion that everything we have previously read may not be entirely true. This is completely distinct from the currently fashionable idea of the multiverse, where multiple realities abruptly emerge from nowhere."
Tomek elaborated on the events of The Lady of the Lake, the concluding book in The Witcher series, which described the adventures of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer, who have now become legendary figures. As time passes and the stories are retold, variations in these legends emerge due to different interpretations. This aspect could potentially be reflected in The Witcher season 4. The producer also emphasized that The Conjunction of the Spheres in The Witcher universe signifies different worlds, but there exists only one timeline. Unlike Marvel, there are no alternate versions of Geralt. In the Netflix adaptation, events can be depicted with the protagonist character looking different than he did in the previous three seasons.
While this approach may address the issue of recasting, it poses concerns for the show's future. Tomek mentioned how frustrating it was when The Lady of the Lake was released, as it altered the narrative so significantly. This late change feels like a betrayal to devoted fans who have invested years in these characters. This could potentially be the fate of future seasons of The Witcher. Tomek argued that audiences should not interpret the material so rigidly, but die-hard fans will find little solace in that reasoning. Admittedly, there were limited options for the Netflix series to address the need to recast Geralt for Season 4 of The Witcher. Consequently, the writers had only a few viable choices when it came to introducing a new Geralt.
