Batman's Flash Clip Teases Henry Cavill's Superman Fate

New clip from The Flash with Michael Keaton's Batman suggests that Henry Cavill's Superman is still relevant despite not appearing in the movie The shake-up in DC Studios leadership has left many questioning the future of characters and actors, but this clip hints at a possible return for Cavill's Superman

After a major shake-up in leadership at DC Studios, the future of many actors and characters has come under scrutiny. Henry Cavill's future as Superman was revealed early on when James Gunn announced that he would not be continuing to appear in any DC Studios projects. However, it seems that Cavill's Superman may still make an appearance in The Flash.

The movie will follow Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, as he uses his powers to travel back in time to prevent his mother's death. In doing so, he accidentally traps himself in a world without metahumans, which is under attack from General Zod - the same villain that Cavill's Superman defeated in Man of Steel. To defeat Zod, Barry forms a team consisting of Sasha Calle's Supergirl, Michael Keaton's Batman, and a younger version of himself, also played by Miller. Although it was previously announced that Cavill's cameos were cut from the movie, many characters adjacent to Superman's story are still involved in the plot.

While Cavill's Superman won't make an appearance in The Flash, his Man of Steel may still play a role in the plot. In a clip shared by Rotten Tomatoes on YouTube, both Barrys explore the Batcave. As the younger Barry unveils the Batmobile, Keaton's Batman descends into the Batcave and offers to help capture Superman, stating that Barry will be on his own thereafter. This is followed by a sequence that fans of The Flash's promotional material will find familiar: Keaton declares, "Yeah, I'm Batman," and the younger Barry faints at the sight of the hero in real life.

Since James Gunn took over DC Studios, The Flash has undergone a few changes. Given that most of these changes were made after the movie was already filmed, it's unsurprising that Cavill's involvement might not have been entirely removed from the final cut. Cavill wasn't the only actor whose scenes were cut, either; Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman was also set to make an appearance in the film before being removed.

While it has been confirmed that Superman will be a part of The Flash, the extent of his involvement is still up in the air. There are a few possibilities on how the filmmakers will cover for Henry Cavill's absence. One option is to simply allude to Superman's presence without actually showing him. Another possibility is to have a body double for Superman, whose face is never shown, much like what was done in Shazam. Fans may also see Barry, Batman, and Supergirl interact with Superman, but played by a different actor. Director Andrés Muschietti has already revealed that Nicolas Cage will make an appearance as Superman in The Flash, but the details of his role remain a mystery. This opens up the possibility that Superman could have a significant interaction with Barry, Batman, and Supergirl than what fans initially anticipated.

The Flash is set to hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
