Instead of Superman, Calle's Supergirl will play a central role in the film, with her character being trapped and deprived of sunlight upon arriving on Earth. This means that Cavill's Man of Steel will have a different part to play in the movie, rather than taking on the traditional Superman role from the original story.

Rumors suggest that Gal Gadot's character had a more significant role in The Flash than Henry Cavill's Superman. Ben Affleck's description of an early scene in the film did not include Gadot's character, but rather depicted a big action sequence with Batman that concluded with Wonder Woman saving him. According to The Flash rumors, Cavill's Superman only appeared in a cameo role at the end of the movie after Michael Keaton's Batman and Sasha Calle's Supergirl. If true, The Flash may have originally intended to set up a co-existence between Cavill's Superman and Calle's Supergirl, rather than the current arrangement. With a new Clark Kent actor set to be revealed for Gunn's Superman: Legacy, only Calle's Supergirl may remain in the new DC Universe. If The Flash proves successful, Calle may have a real chance at leading the already announced Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film.
