What Is The Deck Of Whispers? How To Get More Cards For The Lectern Of Divination
With the start of the Season of the Witch, Destiny 2 players now have two new activities to enjoy: Savathûn's Spire and Altars of Summoning. While these additions offer different gameplay experiences, they both feature a new Season 22 element inspired by tabletop gaming. The Lectern of Divination, found in the H.E.L.M., allows Destiny 2 players to acquire cards that can be incorporated into a personalized deck, granting specific buffs.
Each season in Destiny 2 introduces fresh activities and mechanics that align with the ongoing story. Season 22 focuses on Eris Morn's ascent to Hive godhood. Consequently, Guardians are delving into the secrets of Hive magic and dedicating their kills to Morn, who seeks to overpower Xivu Arath, the Hive god of war. To further this empowerment, players must master the artifacts left behind by Savathûn after her defeat in The Witch Queen expansion. By learning Hive rituals and bringing Savathûn back from the dead, Guardians can bolster the new Hive god of vengeance. The Lectern of Divination and the Deck of Whispers play a crucial role in achieving this objective, as players must demonstrate their mastery of these tools.
What Is The Deck Of Whispers?
The Deck of Whispers mechanic in Season of the Witch works alongside the Lectern of Divination. The Deck of Whispers represents a collection of customizable effect-infused cards for Guardians. The Lectern is where Opaque Cards are transformed into new cards. Initially, when players earn a new card, it appears as an Opaque Card. By visiting the Lectern of Divination, Guardians can reveal the newly acquired card as either a Major Arcana card or a Minor Arcana card.
The Deck of Whispers comprises Major Arcana cards, of which five are required to create the first deck. Each Major Arcana card offers a distinct combat effect, such as health and shield regeneration after rapid kills. When starting an encounter in Savathûn's Spire or the Altars of Summoning, one card from the Deck of Whispers is chosen randomly. Additionally, some Major Arcana cards provide extra rewards, such as new daily Bounties. On the other hand, Minor Arcana cards are not included in the Deck of Whispers. However, each Minor Arcana card grants an immediate reward when presented at the Lectern, such as Exotic Engrams or Enhancement Prisms.
Opaque Card: Must be revealed through the Lectern of Divination
Major Arcana: Used in the Deck of Whispers, provides combat effects and sometimes daily Bounties or seasonal bonuses
Minor Arcana: Provides instant rewards
How To Get More Cards For The Lectern Of Divination
Players won't have any trouble finding new Opaque Cards for the Lectern of Divination. They have a chance to obtain them whenever Guardians open a chest in Savathûn's Spire or the Altars of Summoning activity. While Minor Arcana cards provide instant rewards, Major Arcana cards require some additional effort to unlock. These cards are obtained through quests that are tied to specific Major Arcana cards as they are revealed. These quests often involve gathering "Insight" by completing certain actions, such as achieving a specific number of melee kills in the new activities.
However, there are limitations on the availability of Major Arcana cards on a weekly basis. When players begin Season 22 and complete the initial quests, they are guaranteed to receive Opaque Cards that reveal a few Major Arcana cards. As players continue to play, once they have revealed five Major Arcana cards, all subsequent Opaque Cards will reveal Minor Arcana cards instead. This means that obtaining new Major Arcana cards is time-limited and aligned with the ongoing seasonal storyline. As Season 22 progresses, players can discover more Major Arcana cards and further customize their Deck of Whispers. Similar to the season's beginning, players will likely obtain these new Major Arcana cards through weekly story missions and participating in new activities.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
