Since the first installment of Destiny, Bungie has meticulously crafted a deep and intricate lore surrounding the dynamic interplay of Light and Darkness within the game's universe. While much remains to be unveiled about these fundamental forces, the current focus of the game centers around the Guardians' pursuit of the Witness, a enigmatic entity tied to the Darkness who has mysteriously disappeared following the events of the Lightfall expansion in Destiny 2. Season 22 and 23 will further explore the ultimate confrontation between the Witnesses and the Guardians in The Final Shape, as Bungie implements a new storytelling approach with Lightfall. Bungie has now shared a tantalizing glimpse of what players can expect from this final chapter in the gripping Light and Darkness saga.
The latest Destiny 2 blog from Bungie featured a teaser showcasing a group of Guardians attempting to access the Traveler through its connection to the Veil. Following the events of Lightfall, the Witness entered the Traveler through the portal and has been missing ever since. Previous efforts to locate the Witness were unsuccessful until Sloane, a forgotten ally, emerged on Titan with valuable information during Destiny 2's Season of the Deep. Sloane revealed that Ahsa, a sea creature residing on Titan, could assist in defeating the Witness. After rescuing Ahsa from Xivu Arath, the creature divulged that the Guardians will require the support of Savathun in their search for and defeat of the Witness.
In addition to the storyline developments, Bungie is working on various game improvements to ensure a balanced gameplay experience with The Final Shape's release. This includes a range of changes in both PvE and PvP aspects, which will be introduced throughout Seasons 22 and 23. Furthermore, game director Joe Blackburn recently announced the implementation of a "PvP Strike Team" to enhance the balance of Crucible in Destiny 2.
In addition, Bungie has announced that Commander Zavala in Destiny 2 will be portrayed by Hollywood veteran Keith David following the unfortunate demise of the character's previous voice actor, Lance Reddick. Bungie will retain all of Reddick's dialogue in the game to preserve his lasting impact. Destiny 2 can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
