Should You Kill the Injured Owlbear in Baldur's Gate 3?

The Owlbear in BG3 is fated to die regardless of the player's choice. If players decide to avoid confronting the creature, a group of goblins will kill it after a Long Rest. This allows players to loot the Owlbear's corpse and nest without causing its demise. However, there are incentives for a more active approach.

Slaying the Owlbear grants XP in Baldur's Gate 3. Additionally, killing the creature rewards an Inspiration point to certain backgrounds like Outlander. While these rewards may not be highly impressive, they could influence players who are undecided on whether to kill the Owlbear.

If players choose to personally deal with the Owlbear, it would be wise for them to refrain from attacking its cub. If the young one manages to survive the encounter, dedicated CRPG enthusiasts will have the chance to come across it (after taking a Long Rest) in a nearby Goblin Camp. Moreover, players can save the cub and bring it back to their own camps. This opportunity also presents itself if players opt not to kill the Owlbear, as the goblins will snatch the cub when they dispatch its mother.

Players who defeat the Owlbear can claim various items as rewards. One notable item is the Head of a Broken Spear, which can be combined with the Shaft of a Broken Spear found on Edowin's body at X:136 Y:446. This combination creates the Vision of the Absolute, an uncommon spear that has the ability to Blind its targets. Additionally, players can also find an Owlbear Egg in the Owlbear Nest in BG3. While its primary use may be selling for a substantial amount of Gold, it may have other purposes as well. Baldur's Gate 3 is set to release on August 3 for PC, and September 6 for PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version currently in development.
