Caution: Spoilers ahead! Watch out if you haven't seen Edens Zero Season 2, Episode 17, "The Battle of Foresta," currently available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
Originally intended as a short stopover, the Edens Zero battleship finds itself unexpectedly caught up in another confrontation on the lush planet Foresta. As androids bent on enslaving humanity clash with Nero's ruthless commando team, the peaceful Foresta descends into a chaotic battleground. Shiki and his friends find themselves thrust into the heart of this conflict, fully aware of the precarious nature of both sides.
The Corrupted Androids
: In a desperate race against time, the Edens Zero crew must confront the looming risk of corruption threatening the Four Shining Stars. Their ultimate goal is to reverse Ziggy's corruption on Forresta. However, this pressing conflict presents the crew with numerous moral dilemmas, particularly due to the androids' lack of free will. As a result, Shiki finds himself navigating a treacherous path, attempting to balance the impending danger posed by the corrupted androids, while also ensuring the safety of his friends.
Foresta, once a peaceful planet inhabited by robots, now lies in ruins under Ziggy's tyrannical rule. These once-docile machines have been transformed into relentless enforcers, stripping humanity of its freedom and leaving the streets lined with decayed corpses. Yet, it is crucial to acknowledge that the androids' actions are not of their own volition but a result of Ziggy's corrupted program manipulating their free will. Despite the ethical dilemma of regarding androids as sentient beings, the Edens Zero crew is compelled to resist and confront this oppressive force.
Nero’s Commando Team Beast
Until Hermit discovers a solution to neutralize Ziggy’s virus, the crew will be forced to protect themselves from the advancing robots. A handful of androids remain untouched by the virus, advocating for an end to the aggression against the humans. Nevertheless, it is only a matter of time before every android in Foresta succumbs to Ziggy's control, including the Four Shining Stars.
The jurisdiction of Planet Foresta falls under Poseidon Nero, an esteemed member of Oracion Seis Galactica and the reigning emperor of Aoi Cosmos. Consequently, any rebellion or uprising transpiring on the planet falls squarely on Nero's shoulders, as he assumes full responsibility. To serve his admirable cause, Nero's Commando Squad Beast exists as a fierce military unit, meticulously trained to carry out the emperor's every whim without hesitation.
To suppress the android revolution in Foresta, the squad responsible for this task has been summoned. Their objective is to subdue the bots and thwart Ziggy's plans. Given their orders to eliminate every android on Foresta using any means necessary, Pino, Happy, and the Four Shining Stars have now become targets, posing a threat that Shiki is determined to resist.
Presently, the Commando Team Beast consists of three members stationed on Foresta, although there may be additional members yet to be disclosed. Their abilities rival those of Shiki and the rest of the crew, indicating that another arduous battle awaits them. As Nero's loyalties remain uncertain, the possibility of the squad aligning with the crew also remains. However, for a truce to be possible, a common adversary must emerge, and the only suitable candidates are Ziggy and the Four Dark Stars.
Moral Ambiguity of the Conflict
The situation on Foresta is filled with moral complexities, causing the Edens Zero crew to reconsider their next steps. Knowing that Ziggy's corruption is the cause of the androids' sudden change in allegiance, launching an all-out war against them seems unreasonable. Shiki now faces the challenge of navigating this moral dilemma, while also dealing with the threat of Nero's squad mercilessly targeting the androids.
There was a potential for Nero's squad and the Edens Zero crew to join forces in the conflict, working together towards the common goal of freeing Foresta from Ziggy's control. However, the moral complexities of the situation have forced these two groups to take opposing sides. The Edens Zero crew prioritizes the well-being of the androids while searching for a way to undo the corruption on the planet.
On the opposite side, Nero's squad has opted to unquestioningly obey their emperor's order to destroy all androids in Foresta, regardless of whether they pose a threat to humans or not. This stark contrast has led to a clash between the two factions, creating yet another conflict for the crew. While the true loyalties of the Beast Squad remain unknown, there is a possibility of a ceasefire between the two groups to confront a shared adversary, although the likelihood is low. Nevertheless, one thing remains unwavering - Shiki's determination to safeguard the well-being of both humans and androids in his midst.
