Edens Zero’s storyline is filled with unexpected twists and surprises, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. In just the first half of Season 2, the series has already unveiled several significant developments. However, none of them compare to the shocking return of Demon King Ziggy, a character who was believed to be dead.
From the very beginning of Edens Zero, it seemed certain that Ziggy had met his end, as shown in the first episode where Shiki is left under the care of other androids on planet Granbell. While Ziggy's revival has contradicted this established fact, it remains uncertain whether his return is permanent or not. Furthermore, the strange circumstances surrounding his comeback and his peculiar behavior suggest that there may be other factors at play.
The Revival of Ziggy
Ziggy's sudden return to the series is set to completely change the dynamics of Edens Zero, but not in the way fans had hoped. The crew, although initially excited about the return of their beloved figure, are not pleased with his reappearance. Surprisingly, the former Demon Lord has now become an enemy of mankind, with a desire to conquer the cosmos and rule over all life forms.
Previously, Ziggy was a kind and compassionate android who believed in the unity and coexistence of humans and robots. The Four Shining Stars embody Ziggy's ideals, seeing themselves as equals to humans. However, this drastic change in his personality and beliefs has tarnished the Demon Lord's legacy. While it is still unclear what factors are influencing this transformation, it is highly likely that an external force is at play. Rebecca's Cat Leaper, with its ability to alter the fate of different characters, could potentially be a contributing factor. Although this explanation seems plausible, it is still too early to draw any definite conclusions.
It could be argued that this character is an imposter pretending to be the former Demon Lord. However, this claim can be refuted by the fact that Ziggy was observed using his Gravity Ether Gear, a power that is unique to him and Shiki. While the situation still remains uncertain, the unusual circumstances suggest the possibility of Ziggy’s coded program being infiltrated by a virus or some external entity taking control of his body and manipulating his actions.
The Four Dark Stars
In addition to Ziggy's comeback, four intriguing new characters have made their appearance. Known as the Four Dark Stars, these androids are an upgraded version of the Four Shining Stars. Their purpose, under Ziggy's command, is to fulfill the Demon Lord's objective of subjugating humanity.
The Four Dark Stars are known for their merciless and ruthless nature, surpassing the power of the Four Shining Stars by an unfathomable margin. According to Ziggy, the Four Shining Stars were merely prototypes in comparison to the Dark Stars, indicating that these new android models possess immense strength beyond imagination. With the sudden emergence of these four extraordinarily formidable adversaries, the crew of Edens Zero finds itself in an intimidating and challenging predicament.
The Edens One Battleship
Ziggy's return has brought forth a multitude of revelations, one of which includes the existence of the Edens One. Initially, it was believed that Ziggy's most advanced battleship was the Edens Zero, especially since he was able to depart from the Sakura Cosmos using this very spacecraft. However, it turns out that the Edens Zero was merely a prototype for the Edens One, indicating that the latter is a significantly more advanced and battle-ready spaceship.
The Edens One is commanded by Mr. Connors, an adept pilot with exceptional skills in maneuvering spacecraft. After his own spaceship encountered an accident, Mr. Connors joined the Edens Zero crew in World 29. However, in World 30, he mysteriously disappeared, a puzzle that was later attributed to the incredible Cat Leaper power possessed by Rebecca.
Why Ziggy’s Return Is Odd
It is quite perplexing that Ziggy’s reappearance in Edens Zero is unlike the typical revival of a deceased character in anime series. Usually, shows foreshadow the return of a character or incorporate a recurring theme of resurrection. However, in this instance, Ziggy's revival was kept under wraps until the very last moment, without any subtle indication of his comeback.
In addition, the series has already showcased several permanent deaths, emphasizing that these deaths are final and irreversible. A notable example is the demise of Valkyrie, an android whose revival should have been possible in a technologically advanced universe like Edens Zero. However, it became evident that Valkyrie would not be brought back, solidifying this fact by passing on the title of the Swords of Edens to Homura.
While many fans may have desired to see Valkyrie return, such a decision would have hindered the character development of Homura. Similarly, the return of Ziggy undermines the growth of Shiki and his personal journey without the presence of a dominant parental figure. The true motive behind Ziggy's reappearance is yet to be revealed, but the current circumstances undoubtedly pose a peculiar situation for Shiki's development.
