Bungie has announced that The Final Shape DLC for Destiny 2 will be launching on February 27, 2024. The release date was unveiled during a recent showcase that provided additional details about the game's final DLC, which marks the culmination of Destiny's epic Light and Darkness saga. The Guardians have faced numerous challenges throughout the Destiny series, from battling gods to preventing the collapse of entire civilizations. However, the stakes have never been higher as the Witness threatens to bring about The Final Shape, posing a grave threat to the known universe. The forthcoming expansion will serve as the ultimate conclusion to Destiny 2's overarching narrative, and players can now anticipate experiencing it on the specified date.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape's trailer announced that the expansion will be released on February 27, 2024. In this expansion, the Guardians will enter the Traveler to pursue the Witness. After the events of Lightfall, the Witness managed to enter the Traveler with the help of the Veil, making it inaccessible to the Guardians. During the Season of the Deep, it was revealed that the Guardians will seek assistance from Savathun, whom they defeated in Destiny 2's The Witch Queen DLC. Now, it is confirmed that the Guardians will also enter the Traveler in The Final Shape, with Seasons 22 and 23 dedicated to unlocking this path.
Bungie's storytelling approach changed with the Lightfall expansion, as it aimed to address questions in subsequent seasons rather than in the expansion itself. However, this decision received negative reviews from fans, resulting in criticism of Destiny 2's Lightfall DLC. Fortunately, Bungie has promised to rectify this by ensuring that The Final Shape's campaign and raid provide a climactic conclusion to the Light and Darkness saga. Additionally, the showcase revealed that the Guardians will confront the Witness in The Final Shape's raid, instead of the campaign.
The Final Shape is still over 6 months away, but players can dive into the Destiny 2 Season 22, titled "Season of the Witch," starting August 22. Bungie aims to bring a fresh perspective to the game with this season, revamping various weapon types and giving neglected Exotics a much-needed upgrade. Moreover, fans can look forward to the return of beloved Exotic missions with the introduction of the Exotic Mission Rotator. Destiny 2 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
