The Epic Return of Cayde-6 in Destiny 2's Final Battle

The Destiny 2 community was left devastated by the loss of Cayde-6, creating a void among the game's cast that has yet to be filled. However, this will soon change with the Hunter Vanguard's anticipated return in the next expansion, The Final Shape. The upcoming expansion marks the epic conclusion of The Light and Darkness Saga, with Guardians and The Witness facing off in a climactic battle that will determine the fate of the entire universe. Although not as a Guardian, Cayde-6 is set to make a comeback and assist his former comrades-in-arms in this long-awaited decisive conflict.

At present, Destiny 2 is in the midst of Season of the Deep, the second season of new content following the release of Lightfall in February 2023. The current season sees the return of Titan and Deputy Commander Sloane, who have been absent since the end of Season of Arrivals and the launch of Beyond Light. Sloane has issued a call to Guardians to protect a mysterious creature dwelling deep beneath the waves of Titan's methane oceans, which may hold the key to defeating The Witness in the impending battle.

Cayde-6's return was unveiled during Bungie's segment at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase. Seated across from his longtime friend and fellow Vanguard member, Ikora Rey, Cayde's absence since his death at the hands of Uldren Sov in the Forsaken expansion was recounted. The Hunter Vanguard's return also signifies the return of Nathan Fillion, the original voice actor for Cayde, following Nolan North's portrayal of the character in Forsaken.

The teaser also provided a glimpse of a lush landscape beyond the portal opened by The Witness on the Traveler, which vanished at the end of Lightfall's campaign. It remains unclear whether this is a world created by The Witness or a completely different dimension, where the Darkness seeks to spread its influence and end its age-old battle with The Traveler. Regardless of the world's origin, players will have the opportunity to learn more about The Final Shape's plans during Bungie's next Destiny 2 Showcase on August 22, 2023.

The return of Cayde-6 and Nathan Fillion to Destiny 2 is highly anticipated by the game's community, who were both beloved among players. However, for some, the news may be bittersweet due to the passing of Lance Reddick, the voice actor for Commander Zavala, in March 2023. Reddick was also popular among Destiny 2 players and shared a mutual love for the community. Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
