Bungie recognizes the need for a more practical approach to the Crucible. They aim to prioritize the PvP experience for players who enjoy it, while also making it optional for others.
In order to achieve this, the Destiny 2 PvP Strike Team will promptly respond to player feedback and expedite the release of new content. Additionally, they will introduce annual map packs to enhance and elevate the overall PvP experience.
Destiny 2 Game Director, Joe Blackburn, discusses Bungie's upcoming plans to revamp the PvP experience over the next year. The Destiny 2 community has expressed frustration with the Crucible mode, as it was lacking regular content updates. While Bungie made some mechanical changes, the addition of new maps and loot became rare, leading to a sense of stagnation and neglect compared to the PvE side of the game.
Fortunately, Bungie has taken note of fan feedback regarding the Crucible and has revealed numerous changes during The Final Shape showcase in August. In addition to a new Crucible map called Multiplex and a game mode called Relic in the Season of the Witch, a major announcement for PvP enthusiasts is the formation of a dedicated strike team in Destiny 2, aimed at creating content at a faster pace. Recent updates shed light on Bungie's implementation plans for these upcoming changes.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Joe Blackburn, the Game Director of Destiny 2, discussed Bungie's plans for the game's PvP side. Surprisingly, upon his return to the company in 2020, he admitted that Bungie was unsure about how to proceed with the PvP mode. Many believed that it hadn't made significant progress and there were few examples of games offering a combined PvE and PvP experience in a live service package to draw inspiration from. However, Bungie is now adopting a more practical approach to the Crucible, focusing on the ease with which players can obtain powerful weapons and join a match.
Blackburn confirmed that the studio will no longer focus on pleasing everyone in the Crucible. Instead, they will prioritize catering to Destiny 2 players who regularly engage in PvP activities, while also making it more optional for those who don't enjoy these modes. Blackburn believes that by targeting a specific audience and acknowledging that the new content may not appeal to every player, they can create an experience that people will enjoy. If their approach doesn't succeed, Blackburn assured that Bungie is willing to try alternative strategies for the Crucible community. However, he believes that by clearly defining the target audience for PvP, the team can make informed decisions and deliver an enjoyable experience. This approach is a fresh perspective, and if it doesn't prove successful, they will explore other options.
The Destiny 2 PvP Strike Team aims to enhance player experience by implementing regular updates in Season 22 and 23. In addition to actively engaging with player feedback and responding promptly to necessary adjustments, the team will also expedite the development of fresh content. Notably, Bungie plans to introduce a complete map pack annually, departing from their previous slower release system. Destiny 2 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
