Lisa Vanderpump isn't really shocked by Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright's split. She mentioned to E! News on Monday, March 18, that many people had anticipated this outcome when they tied the knot. Despite the predictions, Vanderpump never liked to jump to conclusions.
Lisa Vanderpump, a star from Vanderpump Rules, reflected on her own wedding in 1982 to husband Ken Todd. Despite the doubts from others due to their age gap and Ken's reputation as a "bad boy" in London, Vanderpump remained optimistic as she walked down the aisle 42 years ago.
She also brought up the past cheating scandals involving Taylor, who is 44 years old, hinting that these incidents could have contributed to the strained relationship with her former employees.
"I don’t know what the reason was," she said, referring to Taylor and Cartwright’s split. "But I think it might have had something to do with Jax’s past misbehavior. The saying goes, 'the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.'"
Taylor and Cartwright, both 35, departed from Vanderpump Rules in 2020 after being part of the reality show since 2013 and 2015, respectively. They are set to make a comeback on the Bravo series this week to promote their new spinoff, The Valley. The couple became parents to their son, Cruz, in 2021.
"It's always sad to see a couple with a child go through a divorce," Vanderpump expressed. "Marriage is tough, especially in Hollywood where there are so many distractions and egos at play. Almost everyone I know from reality TV who got married has ended up splitting, except for Ken and me."
Despite rumors circulating, Taylor and Cartwright have both denied any infidelity in their relationship. A source also confirmed that cheating was not a current issue in their marriage.
Cartwright opened up about the challenges in her marriage on a recent episode of her podcast with Taylor. She acknowledged that marriages can be difficult and admitted to facing a tough year.
She revealed that she and Jax are currently taking a break and she has decided to move into a different home to give herself some space for her mental well-being. Cartwright expressed that it is still a sensitive topic for her and she prefers not to delve into too many specifics at the moment.
That same day, Taylor told Page Six that the relationship between him and Cartwright felt "fresh and new" as they navigated the next steps of their time apart.
He emphasized that their situation was not driven by evil intentions or animosity. Instead, it was simply two individuals who had reached a milestone of 10 years in their marriage. They were taking some time apart to reevaluate their circumstances, especially considering their child. They both wanted to prioritize what was best for their kid.
The couple announced their separation weeks before their new reality show, The Valley, is set to premiere via Bravo on Tuesday, March 19.
