Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist, 70, got married to protect their assets. They tied the knot in January, just four months after their televised engagement on The Golden Bachelor finale in September 2023. However, three months later, the couple decided to part ways.

During an interview with Good Morning America on Friday, April 12, Gerry and Theresa shared that they have a prenuptial agreement in place and they highly recommend it to others, as reported by ABC News’ Juju Chang.

Although the specific details of their agreement have not been made public, both Gerry and Theresa had accumulated assets and salaries before getting married. Gerry, who is now retired, appeared on The Bachelor as a restaurateur with multiple establishments in Moline, Illinois. However, a controversial report by The Hollywood Reporter in December 2023 accused Gerry of exaggerating and misrepresenting his career, which he denied.

Gerry shared with Katie Couric Media that his business was similar to the Cadillac Diner where he and Theresa had their first date. He mentioned that he sold burgers, fries, and shakes, making it a profitable venture.

After retiring at the age of 55, Gerry focused on giving back to the community and engaging in meaningful activities that benefitted others. He expressed contentment in being able to contribute positively to society.

Gerry sold his drive-in franchise, Mr. Quick, based in Iowa, in 1985. After selling the business, he retired to Indiana with his late wife, Toni Turner, and together they built a house by the lake. Since retiring, Gerry has been doing maintenance work.

“I didn't do handyman work for the money,” Gerry shared with Katie Couric Media. “I did it because I wanted to help people who needed assistance. It felt good to make a difference.”

Theresa has been in the finance industry for 17 years and has six securities licenses. She currently works as a senior compliance officer for a regional firm in New Jersey, as mentioned on her LinkedIn profile. During her time on Golden Bachelor, Theresa shared that she was a stay-at-home wife before becoming a day trader after purchasing stocks following her late husband, Billy Nist's passing.

Theresa also has a house in New Jersey, where she has been living while married to Gerry for three months. Gerry lives in Indiana. They had been thinking about living together but ended up separating before making a decision.

On Good Morning America, Theresa mentioned, "We checked out houses in South Carolina, thought about New Jersey, and saw many homes, but we never reached a final decision."

Editor's P/S:

The marriage of Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, motivated primarily by asset protection, has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions about the changing nature of relationships. Their decision to prioritize financial security over emotional connection highlights a trend toward pragmatic unions in an era where divorce rates remain high. While some may question the authenticity of their love, others see their prenuptial agreement as a wise precaution in the face of potential financial challenges.

The article also sheds light on the diverse backgrounds of the couple. Gerry's philanthropic endeavors and Theresa's financial acumen demonstrate that they are individuals with distinct interests and accomplishments. Their decision to part ways after only three months of marriage suggests that they ultimately found it difficult to reconcile their different lifestyles and goals. While it is unfortunate that their marriage did not succeed, it serves as a reminder that even carefully planned unions can falter when expectations and realities collide.
