Highly-Anticipated Bloodborne-Inspired Game 'Lies of P' Officially Hits Gold

The Soulslike action RPG called Lies of P, developed by Korean studio Round 8 Studio, has officially achieved gold status and is set to launch on September 19. This game draws inspiration from the renowned Japanese studio FromSoftware's gothic horror sensation, Bloodborne, featuring a similarly gloomy atmosphere and intense, fast-paced combat.

Originally announced in 2021, Lies of P immediately garnered attention for its exceptionally dark take on the well-known and typically lighthearted fable of Pinocchio. Developed by the relatively unknown Round 8 and published by Neowiz Games, many initially considered the concept too unusual and unconventional to ever come to fruition, despite the impressive and thrilling CGI reveal. However, Lies of P received validation at Gamescom 2022, as it unveiled its plan to launch on September 19 as part of Xbox's popular subscription service, Game Pass.

With Game Pass and a public four-hour demo generating more interest, Lies of P has become one of the most anticipated games of 2023. The game's Twitter account has confirmed that it has reached gold status and will be released next month. The tweet, which includes a photo of the development team, provides hints about the game's setting, including the Krat Train Station and the presence of the antagonistic Black Rabbit Brotherhood. While the news of a game going gold is exciting, it's important to note that delays are still a possibility. After Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch in 2020, gamers have become skeptical of games claiming to have gone gold. However, considering the successful releases of other big games since then, it is reasonable to expect that Lies of P will not face similar issues at this stage.

While the concept of Lies of P is uniquely impressive and its gameplay is captivating, it is entering a crowded month of game releases. With Xbox's highly anticipated space-faring RPG Starfield launching just two weeks prior and the heavily awaited Mortal Kombat 1 also arriving on September 19, Lies of P faces tough competition. Additionally, popular games like Baldur's Gate 3 on PS5, NBA 2K24, Ubisoft's The Crew Motorfest, and Payday 3 further contribute to the packed September schedule. However, as the sole major release in the Soulslike genre, Lies of P's Game Pass launch on day one might help it gain recognition amidst the multitude of new Fall video games.
