Gerry Turner and his fiancée, Theresa Nist, recently shared an update on their engagement and announced that they will be having a televised wedding special to start off the new year. The couple, aged 72 and 70 respectively, made the announcement during the After the Final Rose segment of The Golden Bachelor season 1 finale, which aired on Thursday, November 30. After exchanging congratulations, they opened up about the intimate details of the overnight date that solidified their love.

“I just suddenly realized that this woman knew how to sustain and cultivate a relationship,” Gerry said. Theresa then pitched in, saying, “He's not going to spill the details of what happened in the fantasy suite, but I will. I completely blew him away.”

The pair then disclosed that they have been living in pure happiness since getting engaged. Even though they have returned to their regular routines, Theresa confirmed that she and Gerry spend hours talking on the phone "every single day."

“We’ve been having more meaningful conversations,” she exclaimed. “We laugh a lot and it’s been amazing.”

As for Jesse, he shocked Gerry and Theresa with a trip to Italy before revealing the couple's plans to get married immediately. Jesse then announced that The Golden Wedding would be aired on ABC on Thursday, January 4, chronicling Gerry and Theresa's journey to the altar.

Gerry admitted that before the show aired, he had been hesitant to remarry following the death of his wife Toni in 2017 after 43 years of marriage. "As I was dating [before the show], I was searching for someone to spend my life with, regardless of the title," he told We exclusively in October. "But as I became more involved in the show, I realized that I did want to get married. I wanted that commitment, that mutual agreement. So going into the show, that was my goal."

Reflecting on his past marriage, Gerry acknowledged that Toni would be thrilled about the positive outcome of his Golden Bachelor journey, stating, "I was pleased with the way things turned out."

Prior to proposing to Theresa, Gerry bid an emotional farewell to Leslie Fhima after expressing his love for both women. While it's typical for contestants to make such confessions in the Bachelor franchise, Gerry never expected to develop feelings for more than one woman.

"I initially thought it was impossible and silly, but I was completely wrong," he confessed to Us in September. "As the journey progressed, I developed strong feelings for several of the women."

Even though he was engaged to Theresa, Gerry admitted that he was not truly "in love" with some of the contestants.

Upon reflection, I came to understand that in that specific moment, no matter when it occurred, the circumstances made it easy to express love to someone," he explained. "However, as time passed and I looked back, I came to realize that only one person truly met the standard in every situation.

Theresa faced drama earlier this season when Kathy Swarts accused her of boasting about her relationship with Gerry. In October, Theresa took to Instagram to clarify that she never meant to make Kathy or anyone else feel inadequate.

"I am thankful to those who could see that my intentions were good and that I felt truly sorry when I realized I had hurt Kathy's feelings," she expressed. "Thanks to my friends and family who understand my character and know that I would never intentionally cause harm, and to my new friends who can already recognize this in me as well."
