Post Malone impressed country legend Garth Brooks by covering his classic song. The 28-year-old musician shared a video on Instagram where he played guitar and sang Brooks' hit song "Friends in Low Places" from 1990.
During a recent episode of his Facebook Live show Inside Studio G, Brooks, 62, expressed his excitement by saying, "This is awesome!" He had no idea Malone would cover his song and praised Malone for his vibrant singing style, saying, "When he sings, he's alive, and you can tell that he just loves to do it."
"Friends in Low Places" was the first single from Brooks' second studio album, No Fences. The song topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for four weeks and received the 1990 Single of the Year awards from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association.
Brooks expressed his admiration for Malone, stating that although he excels in his current genre, he has a deep love for country music that has been evident for years.
Malone, known for his success in hip-hop and pop music, is now expanding his musical repertoire to include country. In November 2023, he participated in a tribute to Joe Diffie at the CMA Awards alongside Morgan Wallen and Hardy. Additionally, Malone has teased a new single featuring Luke Combs and is scheduled to perform a set of country covers at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California on April 27.
The rapper known as "Rockstar" is also showcased on Beyoncé's latest album, Cowboy Carter, in a song called "Levii's Jeans."
This year is not the first time that Brooks has responded to a rendition of "Friends in Low Places."
Following Travis Kelce’s performance of the song at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory parade in February, the Country Music Hall of Famer Garth Brooks invited the tight end, 34, to sing the song again at the grand opening of his new bar in Nashville, which is named after the tune.
Brooks expressed his admiration for Kelce’s rendition of ‘Friends in Low Places’ during his podcast, mentioning how he was pleasantly surprised by the performance. "Did you guys see Travis Kelce’s version of ‘Friends in Low Places?’ Did you see him sing this? I loved it, I thought it was fantastic,” Brooks shared with his listeners.
Kelce hasn’t replied to the invitation yet, but Brooks mentioned that the offer is still open.
The singer mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Tonight last month, "I’ll send a plane anytime he wants to come here and sing. What he did to that song … it’s the underdog song, right? It’s weird how the repeating Super Bowl champions were the underdog, but I love the fact that he got that song inside and out by just the way he sang it."
