Garth Brooks has stood firm on his decision to sell Bud Light at his new bar despite a boycott of the beverage by anti-trans supporters. In a Facebook Live video on June 12th, the country singer addressed the controversy surrounding his recent interview with Billboard and emphasized his commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. Brooks believes that diversity is the solution to current and future problems, and while he respects differing opinions, he remains dedicated to his inclusive stance.
"I am a big believer in diversity and inclusivity. Everyone is welcome at my establishment. While I respect that others may have differing opinions and beliefs, I stand by my own. Ultimately, it will be the customers at Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky Tonk in Nashville who will decide which beer brands we serve."
"Those individuals occupying those seats hold the power to make critical decisions," Brooks acknowledged. "This is precisely what Friends in Low Places is all about. Therefore, here's the deal: You are welcome to join us, but do so with a heart full of love, patience, and tolerance. Keep an open mind, and we'll all have a great time. If, however, you are unable to meet these requirements, that's okay too. If you ever feel like giving it a chance, know that you are always welcome to join us and have some fun."
The bar owned by the ACM Award winner, which is set to open soon according to its website, made headlines when the owner stated that they will be serving all brands of beer. This statement gained attention due to a recent boycott by right-wing groups against Bud Light, following their partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney in April.
"I want this place to be a haven where everyone feels secure and comfortable, where manners are valued and people genuinely care for one another," Brooks expressed. "Our philosophy is simple: if you walk through these doors, show love and respect to others. But if you choose to be disrespectful and unpleasant, there are plenty of other establishments on Lower Broadway that will welcome you." Although Brooks did not explicitly mention any specific bars, fans were quick to point out that John Rich and Kid Rock own bars in the same area. Rich previously announced that he would no longer sell Bud Light at Redneck Riviera Bar & BBQ, while Kid Rock opened the Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse in 2018."
Rich expressed his support for Brooks' decision to sell Bud Light, citing the musician's reputation for inclusivity and making music for everyone. However, Rich also speculated that the brand may not be as popular as Brooks hopes and suggested that the decision may be motivated by a desire to help unify the country. Overall, Rich wished Brooks the best in his endeavors.
