Highlights

Destiny 2 is introducing a massive weapon balancing update in Season 22 to ensure no single type of weapon overshadows others in gameplay.

Bungie plans to enhance game balance and reduce engagement range in Crucible through adjustments to weapon reticles, zoom, and damage falloff. The upcoming updates will significantly boost the effectiveness of swords and introduce improvements to Exotic Armor and Exotic weapons, such as the ability of the Monte Carlo Exotic Auto Rifle to function as a Glaive. Additionally, enhancements will be made to perks like Explosive Light and Ambush to ensure better balance in both PvE and PvP.

Bungie has announced a significant weapon balance update for Destiny 2 on their official blog. This update will be implemented starting from Destiny 2 Season 22, which will be revealed during next week's Destiny 2 showcase.

Destiny 2 offers players a wide array of weapons with various perks, archetypes, and ammunition. Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons, Bows, and Fusion Rifles are just a few examples of the available weapons, and they come in Rare, Legendary, and Exotic variants. The choice of weapons used by players differs between PvE and PvP modes in Destiny 2, and often a specific "meta" weapon emerges as a popular choice across the community. To prevent one weapon type from overshadowing others, Bungie has released a substantial update that aims to balance the usage of diverse weapons.

A new Dev Insights blog on the official Bungie website details the significant changes being made to weapons in Destiny 2. It discusses the impact of the mid-season balancing update in Season 21 on the usage of different weapons among the community. The blog highlights adjustments being made to weapons like Immortal (Adept) to ensure they are on par with other archetypes. Bungie also explained its ongoing experiments with weapon reticles and the tuning of zoom and damage falloff on weapons. To achieve this, Bungie is introducing "Range Compression" to reduce the average engagement range in Crucible and prevent weapons from exceeding their intended range. The update removes the damage scaling benefit from weapon zoom and introduces a new stat called "Aim Down Sights (ADS) Damage Falloff Scalar" that will apply to all weapons with damage falloff.

Furthermore, the reworking of a majority of weapon types includes a significant buff to Swords to increase their popularity. Sword guard damage resistance has been significantly enhanced, now providing 82.5% to 95% damage resistance based on the weapon's stats. Bungie has already revealed changes to Exotic Armor pieces for Destiny 2 Season 22 and is now announcing similar updates for Exotic weapons. Of all the changes, the update to the Monte Carlo Exotic Auto Rifle stands out as it now functions as a Glaive with its new Catalyst.

In addition, Bungie has made several announcements regarding the weapon crafting system in Destiny 2. Currently, players can quickly level up weapons by repeatedly completing the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid. However, rather than nerfing this farming method, Bungie has chosen to increase the level progress earned from other activities. Additionally, they are reworking various weapon perks, such as Explosive Light, Ambush, Shoot to Loot, and others, to ensure a balanced experience in both PvE and PvP activities.

Destiny 2 can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
