Destiny 2's Deepsight weapon crafting has undergone several updates to enhance its functionality. In the latest State of the Game blog post, Bungie announced their plans to introduce craftable Exotic Weapons in Season 22. These additions come hand in hand with the highly-anticipated Exotic Mission Rotator feature, which aims to enrich Destiny 2's content and prevent the community from experiencing seasonal fatigue.

Exotic Missions in Destiny 2 offer a unique blend of engaging storytelling and challenging combat scenarios, with corresponding rewards. Initially, secrets like The Whisper and Zero Hour were introduced for players to uncover. Subsequently, quests such as The Other Side, Harbinger, and Pressage became readily accessible, directly tying into the ongoing seasonal story. These optional activities granted exclusive Exotic weapons, some of which have significantly influenced the game's weapon-balancing principles. However, over time, many of the Exotic Missions were removed from the game with each seasonal refresh, including The Whisper and Zero Hour, which were retired in Beyond Light.

Faced with criticism from the Destiny 2 community, Bungie openly acknowledged their error in a previous blog post and pledged to reintroduce Exotic Missions with enhanced features and adjustments. In the most recent State of the Game blog post, the studio confirmed that Season 22 will introduce the promised Exotic Mission Rotator, but also revealed that the mission-exclusive Exotic weapons will now be obtainable through the Deepsight crafting system. The post announced that the Exotic Mission Pressage will initiate the Rotator cycle, with Vox Obscura and Operation: Seraph Shield joining the rotation in the following weeks. No further details regarding other missions, such as The Whisper and Zero Hour, have been provided. However, the studio assures players that more information will be shared in an upcoming This Week In Destiny blog post.

The post briefly outlines the limitations and requirements for crafting in Destiny 2. Fortunately, a previous blog post from July 27 provides more detailed information on how to obtain Destiny 2's Dead Man's Tale Exotic weapon through standard crafting requirements. Players will need to acquire red-border weapons to unlock the craftable pattern, and completing the mission will also grant pre-rolled copies of the weapon. This offers an alternative way to obtain desirable rolls in case of unlucky progress with the crafting system. It can be assumed that other Exotic Weapons like Dead Messenger and Revision Zero will also have craftable patterns, unless Bungie introduces different reward sources for each weapon.

The Exotic Mission Rotator is not a complete reversal of the sunsetting system, but it does represent a positive step in the right direction. Many players in the community will welcome this change. Coupled with adjustments to ritual activities, weapon balancing, and more, Season 22 is shaping up to be a significant advancement towards Destiny 2's future and The Final Shape.
