Dr. Muller's Depravity: Unveiling Kleene's Traumatic Past
Kleene's trauma stems from the same period when Hermit endured torment at the hands of Dr. Muller, resulting in some similarity in their past experiences. However, the extent of Muller's cruelty towards the Rutherford family surpasses any wrongdoing he had previously committed. Despite being significant sponsors of the Muller Royal Laboratories on Planet Newton, the Rutherford family remained completely unaware of the research conducted within the confines of the facility.
After discovering the disturbing nature of Muller's research and experiments following his arrest, the Rutherford family decided to stop funding the Muller Royal Laboratories. This decision greatly angered Muller, who was later imprisoned by the Interstellar Union Army. However, even the Cosmic Government was unable to contain his relentless determination, and he managed to escape prison, albeit at the expense of his entire physical body.
Following his escape and transformation into an O-Tech, Muller's primary objective was to seek revenge against those who had caused his downfall. The Rutherford family became the primary target of his psychopathic fury. Muller violently murdered the parents and then abducted their two children, Jinn and Kleene, intending to use them as subjects for his experiments.
Experiments on Kleene and Jinn
Muller subjected both Jinn and Kleene to unethical research during their captivity, with the main motive being to inflict torture on the children as retribution for the Rutherfords' betrayal. He restrained Jinn against a plank and proceeded to mercilessly torture him, all while forcing his young sister to witness the gruesome spectacle. Jinn endured the horrifying ordeal as Muller systematically dismembered his limbs, leaving him without arms and legs.
The act of witnessing the brutal dismemberment of someone's limbs with a chainsaw is undoubtedly enough to cause severe mental distress. Kleene, still just a child at the time, was forced to watch her brother undergo this twisted experiment, resulting in a complete breakdown of her psychological well-being. Muller's experiment aimed to determine the breaking point at which a person's mental faculties are shattered by witnessing a traumatic event.
In this scenario, Muller achieved victory in shattering Kleene's emotional state, resulting in her complete detachment from emotions following the traumatizing incident. Consequently, she developed a distinctive disorder that triggered a complete breakdown whenever confronted with intense and overpowering feelings.
Kleene’s Current State
Despite Kleene's efforts to suppress these traumatic memories, the horrifying events remained deeply ingrained in her subconscious, causing her to emotionally unravel at the slightest provocation. Even the highly skilled Sister Ivry was unable to cure her unique ailment, leaving her in a state of incurability. However, the unexpected return of Dr. Muller triggered a flood of negative emotions that overwhelmed Kleene, forcing Sister to intervene.
In an effort to rescue Kleene from the grip of her painful past, Sister digitized her memories and delved into her mind, transporting herself back to the moment when she had witnessed the horrifying event. Coincidentally, this occurred at the same time Hermit managed to escape Muller's clutches, enabling Sister to accurately determine that the event had taken place exactly a decade ago. Inside Kleene's mind, Sister Ivry bore witness to the disturbing spectacle firsthand, leaving her in a state of utter shock.
Immediately thereafter, Sister Ivry enveloped Kleene in a comforting embrace and erased her memories of the torturous experiments, thereby successfully curing her affliction which had rendered her incapable of experiencing emotions. Edens Zero suggests that Kleene has now been restored, as evidenced by her ability to shed tears even while unconscious, indicative of her newfound capacity to engage with her emotions without succumbing to despair. However, it is likely that in the future, Kleene may have to confront her traumatizing past. At present, she has made a remarkable recovery from her debilitating condition, enabling her to embrace a more promising future ahead.
