Destiny 2's Lightfall DLC campaign has just released its second part, the Season of the Deep, which was originally announced in May. The game, a first-person MMO that was released in September 2017, was generally well-received as an improvement over its predecessor. However, it faced some criticism for its reclassification of weapons and some of its new content.
Despite this, Destiny 2 has managed to maintain a loyal player base and become known for its long-lasting support through downloadable content. This is likely due to the game's release schedule, which has been spread out across multiple platforms, including the now-defunct Stadia. By offering a constant stream of new weapons, story missions, and dungeons, the game has managed to keep both new and old players engaged and invested in its world.
The official Destiny 2 YouTube channel has released the Season of the Deep launch trailer, providing a sneak peek into the game's latest update. Following the Season of Defiance campaign, the story continues through weekly missions where players will join the Fireteam in their search for a distress signal at the bottom of the methane sea on Titan. However, they soon discover that the signal was sent by a sea creature with ruthless intentions. The trailer showcases various new underwater maps, including one set in a submerged facility, new costumes, and a range of Light-themed weapons, such as bows and arrows and longswords.
One of the most exciting features of this campaign is the inclusion of Easter eggs from other popular PlayStation franchises. Players can now access themed armor ornaments and finishers inspired by characters such as Kratos, Aloy, and Jin Sakai. Additionally, there are emotes inspired by the recently revived Ratchet and Clank, available for online play. Players can also look forward to discovering other Easter eggs via the Eververse service across all platforms. Finally, the trailer ends with a new fishing mini-game, adding to the already impressive lineup of features in the game.
With DLC content planned out as far ahead as 2024, it's unclear when the excitement for Destiny 2 will come to an end. However, the upcoming pack, The Final Shape, may signal the approaching conclusion. Despite recent controversies surrounding Season 18, Bungie may benefit from ending the game's run on a high note by concluding it sooner rather than later.
Destiny 2 is accessible on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
