Destiny 2's latest update accidentally reintroduced the hot swapping skill, allowing players to seamlessly switch between weapons.

Hot swapping can only be performed with the Strand subclass that was introduced in the Lightfall expansion. The reaction to this discovery varies, as some argue for it to be fixed as an unintended and flawed function, while others enjoy it and wish for it to remain.

Following the recent update from Bungie for Destiny 2, players have made an exciting discovery - a beloved skill that was previously removed earlier this year has now been reintroduced. October heralds the arrival of the Festival of the Lost, a spooky seasonal activity that brings new features like the Acosmic grenade launcher, Legendary Haunted Sectors, and even a fresh shader for players to track down.

Regular content updates, bug fixes, and adjustments to weapons and armor are to be expected in any live service game. However, due to the ever-evolving nature of the game, these patches can sometimes lead to unintended consequences. Such was the case with the recent update released this week, as it accidentally included changes to exotic gear that Bungie had originally planned for Season 23. While many players were busy mastering the updated armor in high-level activities, others stumbled upon the unexpected return of a missing skill.

On Twitter, Saltagreppo, a content creator for Destiny 2, posted a video demonstrating the return of hot swapping in the game. However, there is a catch – this is now only possible by using the Strand subclass, which was introduced with the Lightfall expansion. In the video, Saltagreppo, a legendary World First Raid winner, effortlessly switches between his legendary shotguns and the powerful exotic Tractor Cannon. To achieve this, players need to follow Saltagreppo's instructions: "shoot, grapple, and swap."

This new method is more challenging to execute, and players run the risk of losing their grapple charge if they fail, which is quite likely given the chaotic nature of Destiny 2's combat. Since hot swapping is exclusively available with the Strand subclass, it is reasonable to assume that this is a bug. Earlier this year, Bungie disabled hot swapping to address the issue of players abusing it to switch between the exotic weapon 4th Horseman and other slug shotguns to deal massive damage. A hotfix was implemented, introducing a two-second cooldown before weapons could be fired again after a swap.

Reactions to the discovery are divided, with some suggesting it should be fixed since hot swapping is a flawed and unintentional mechanic. However, Saltagreppo and others are advocating for Bungie to keep it in the game because it is no longer overpowered and actually adds to the enjoyment of the game. Previously, hot swapping was a popular method among players to handle end-game activities like raids.

This recent update has also partially undone a previously controversial change regarding the effectiveness of snipers and shotguns in midair. While Bungie has yet to comment on hot swapping, players can put their skills to the test in this week's featured exotic mission, Operation: Seraph Shield, in order to earn the Revision Zero exotic pulse rifle.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
