Bungie is aggressively taking legal action against Destiny 2 cheat manufacturers, already shutting down three sellers and winning millions in damages.
The developer has taken legal action against Ring-1, a seller of cheats who is accused of putting user hardware at risk. Additionally, Bungie is actively addressing individuals who harass Destiny 2 developers and has chosen to decrease its involvement with the Reddit community because of persistent harassment problems.
Bungie continues its fight against Destiny 2 cheat manufacturers, recently filing a lawsuit against Ring-1. The company has had previous success in taking down three cheat sellers and has been awarded millions in damages, effectively shutting down their operations. Although initially facing setbacks, Bungie's determination paid off with a $4.3 million victory against AimJunkies. Now, they are actively pursuing another cheat seller to permanently close their operations.
As per TorrentFreak, Bungie has issued a strong warning in its lawsuit against Ring-1, stating that "The days when Destiny 2 cheaters can freely launch a massive attack on the Destiny 2 game and its community without facing any consequences are now over." In 2021, Bungie reached a settlement with three out of the four individuals accused in the case. However, Bungie has observed that the seller continues to sell cheats despite the initial lawsuit. Additionally, Bungie has highlighted the "particularly dangerous" nature of Ring-1's cheats, which pose a risk to the user's hardware. This time, Bungie is pursuing legal action against 10 named defendants and 50 unnamed individuals associated with Ring-1. The cheat manufacturer now faces various allegations, including violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and even a Civil RICO prosecution. Bungie asserts that Ring-1's "conspiracy" has directly harmed its operations.
Bungie has already received millions of dollars in damages and recently obtained around $6.7 million from a seller known as LaviCheats. In addition to taking legal action against cheat makers, Bungie is also suing individuals who have harassed the developers of Destiny 2. Recently, they successfully won a case against a player who made threats towards a developer and their partner. Due to the ongoing prevalence of harassment within the community, Bungie has decided to limit its interactions with the Destiny 2 community on Reddit.
This campaign has demonstrated that Bungie is not easily underestimated and that its legal team will continue to pursue the complete shutdown of cheat sellers. A Bungie lawyer has also stated that pursuing these lawsuits is a beneficial business strategy for the company, indicating that they have no plans to halt their efforts against Destiny 2 cheat makers anytime soon.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
