Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan revealed why she no longer supports Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick's relationship.
On an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Coughlan, 37, was asked if she thought Doute, 41, and Broderick, 33, were meant to be together after falling in love before filming The Valley on Bravo.
Coughlan shared that she became more open, and her friend mentioned that he reminded her of the Unabomber. Beside her, fellow guest Brittany Cartwright gasped in shock.
The Unabomber, also known as Ted Kaczynski, was arrested in 1996. He pleaded guilty to charges such as transporting an explosive with the intent to kill or injure, mailing an explosive device with the intent to kill or injure, and using a destructive device in relation to a violent crime. Kaczynski was sentenced to eight consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole. He died by suicide in June 2023.
Coughlan's surprising comparison arises while discussions about Doute and Broderick's relationship remain a hot topic on season 1 of The Valley. The pair first crossed paths in June 2022, right after her breakup with Alex Menache, but they didn't make their relationship public until later that year.

After meeting at the wedding and spending time together, we ended up having sex," Doute shared on their podcast "Sex, Love and What Else Matters" in December 2022. She expressed her struggle with the idea of becoming someone's girlfriend again. Although she loves her partner deeply, the thought of being in that role was overwhelming. What she truly desires is to be a wife and a mother. The idea of just being a girlfriend for a few years and then everything falling apart was exhausting for her.
Despite living in different cities, the couple recently discussed their desire to start a family. Doute resides in Los Angeles, while Broderick is mostly based in Colorado.
In a March episode of The Valley, Doute shared her thoughts on seeing her friends get married and have children. She expressed feeling like she was the oldest girl in the group and wondered when her time would come. Despite the challenges of their long-distance relationship, they have decided to spend the summer together in the Valley to try for a baby.
Jax Taylor, Doute's costar, expressed his concerns about the situation. He mentioned, "I just want to make sure she’s going to be OK having a kid out of wedlock. There’s things that can happen. I just know this because Brittany’s friends have had kids out of wedlock. They are raising the kids by themselves, have to have full-time jobs, health insurance, school, bills and food. It all adds up."
After filming The Valley, Doute and Broderick opened up about Doute's miscarriage due to a "nonviable pregnancy." In recent episodes, they have shared their ongoing journey to conceive a baby.
You can catch The Valley on Bravo every Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET, and stream it on Peacock the following day.
Editor's P/S:
Nicola Coughlan's comparison of Luke Broderick to the Unabomber is both shocking and thought-provoking. While it is important to remember that Broderick has not been convicted of any crimes, the Unabomber's violent and destructive actions are a chilling reminder of the potential consequences of toxic relationships. Coughlan's statement raises questions about the nature of the relationship between Doute and Broderick, and whether Doute is truly aware of the potential risks involved.
It is also important to note that Doute and Broderick are not the only couple who have faced challenges in their relationship. Many couples struggle with issues such as long-distance relationships, financial concerns, and the pressure to start a family. However, it is crucial for couples to be open and honest with each other about their expectations and goals. By having these conversations early on, couples can avoid misunderstandings and potential heartbreak down the road.
