Brian Austin Green, who co-starred with Shannen Doherty in Beverly Hills, 90210 during the ’90s, is speaking out in admiration of his former colleague as she battles cancer three decades later.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published on Wednesday, November 29, the 50-year-old actor praised Doherty's strength, honesty, and resilience. "She’s strong, she’s honest, she just perseveres. She gets through whatever’s going on, and even if it’s hard, she will share that," Green said. "I think it benefits people that are around her to see somebody going through a difficult situation and still keeping her head up."

Green played the role of David Silver in Beverly Hills, 90210 for the entire 10 seasons from 1990 to 2000. Doherty, 52, starred as Brenda Walsh, the female lead, in the first four seasons.

In March 2015, Doherty received a breast cancer diagnosis. After undergoing a mastectomy and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, Doherty declared two years later that she was in remission. However, in February 2020, she disclosed that the cancer had returned, and it is now at stage IV and has spread to her bones.

In an interview published on Wednesday, Doherty shared that asking "Why me? Why did I get cancer? Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage IV?" leads to searching for the bigger purpose in life. Despite her health battle, the Charmed star remains upbeat, even after sharing on Instagram in June that her cancer had spread to her brain and she had undergone surgery five months earlier to remove a tumor.

"I am still embracing life. I am still passionate about love. I am still engaged in the act of making. I am still hopeful about making positive changes. I simply am not – I am not finished."

Doherty has openly shared her health struggles on social media. Just this week, she revealed plans to share her story in an upcoming podcast called “Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty.” In an Instagram post on Tuesday, November 28, she stated, “I will be sharing my journey in a series of candid discussions with important individuals in my life. From past costars to loved ones and the amazing doctors supporting me through my cancer battle, it’s going to be a raw and revealing experience.”

After three failed marriages, Doherty remains hopeful and is excited about the prospect of finding love once more. Her previous marriages include Ashley Hamilton from 1993 to 1994 and Rick Salomon from 2002 to 2003. In April, she filed for divorce from her third husband Kurt Iswarienko after being married for 11 years.

"I don’t believe I will be alone forever," she shared with People. "I need to prioritize loving myself and addressing my past before I can progress, but now I am feeling optimistic about meeting someone — hopefully in the near future."

Doherty went on to find humor in her failed relationships — and noted she can’t be compared to one iconic actress who was married eight times to seven different men.

Doherty laughed and said, "Elizabeth Taylor still holds the record for the most husbands and divorces, so I'm doing fine. I'm not at her level yet, so no need to dwell on the negative. It's just life."
