Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the first couple to find love on Golden Bachelor, surprised everyone by announcing their decision to get a divorce on Friday, April 12.

After the news broke, numerous loyal fans of the Bachelor Nation shared their feelings of shock and sadness on social media.

Susan Noles, who officiated Gerry's Golden Bachelor wedding, wished them the best in a comment on We's post about the announcement on April 12.

Some others expressed disbelief, saying "My goodness" and "This is a total joke, cancel this show already."

A separate fan joked about the duration of the quickie marriage, writing, “I still have milk in the fridge from when this was on.”

Gerry Turner, 72, and Theresa Nist Disney, 70, found love on season 1 of The Golden Bachelor. Their engagement happened during the finale episode that aired in September 2023. Just four months later, they tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in California, which was broadcast live on ABC.

After their breakup news shocked Bachelor Nation, another Instagram user raised doubts about the status of their three-month marriage. The comment on Instagram questioned whether they had ever lived in the same state, expressing discomfort with reality TV shows.

TMZ recently reported that Theresa and Gerry were living apart, with Gerry staying at his lake house in Indiana while Theresa remained in New Jersey. A source later confirmed that they were managing a long-distance marriage, making frequent visits to see each other since Theresa's job was still located in New Jersey.

Theresa shared details about their house-hunting journey while announcing their breakup on Good Morning America. She mentioned that they explored homes in South Carolina and even considered New Jersey. Despite looking at many houses, they never reached a final decision.

Despite choosing to end their marriage, Gerry and Theresa assert that they are “best friends” but a divorce is for the best.

"Gerry shared that Theresa and he have had many deep conversations. They have carefully examined their living arrangements and have both agreed that it is time to end their marriage.

During their discussions, Gerry noted that they both value their families greatly. After considering everything, they have concluded that living separately would be best for their individual happiness."

Gerry and Theresa have a prenuptial agreement in place and also plan to return their Neil Lane wedding rings back to production. “But, we don’t have to give back the memories!” Gerry quipped.
