After successfully completing the raid, players will gain access to an extra mission which showcases the Witness, a formidable adversary embodying the essence of an entire civilization.
The Final Shape expansion will bring forth the addition of three fresh super abilities, the introduction of a new enemy faction known as the Subjugators, and a transition to an episodic content delivery format following its launch.
Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 players will not have access to the last mission of The Final Shape expansion upon its launch. Instead, it will unlock after completing the DLC's raid. In an interview, game director Joe Blackburn shared this information along with additional details about both The Final Shape and the future of PvP in the game.
The Final Shape will serve as the concluding expansion in the ongoing Light and Darkness saga of Destiny 2. After nearly a decade of delving into the realms of the Traveler and the Darkness, the Witch Queen DLC finally introduced the Witness, a harbinger of Darkness that infiltrated the Traveler during Lightfall's climax. Bungie has also confirmed that Guardians will venture into the Traveler to pursue the Witness, and that The Final Shape's campaign and raid will bring a climactic end to the game's narrative. However, it seems that there may be more in store for those who successfully complete the final DLC's raid.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Destiny 2’s game director, Joe Blackburn, teased the existence of an additional mission that will become available to players following their triumph in The Final Shape’s raid. Blackburn expressed that this particular mission will deviate from the format players encountered when facing Savathun and Calus. Furthermore, he revealed that the team's intention was for the Witness to possess a distinctiveness unmatched by other characters in the game; an essence so formidable that facing adversaries like Atheon or Riven in a 1v1 battle would always result in the Witness emerging as the victor.
The Witness stands out among the game's antagonists due to its unique nature as an amalgamation of an entire civilization. While Bungie has shed some light on the Witness's origins in Destiny 2 Season of the Deep, there is still much to discover about its powers and ultimate intentions. Therefore, Bungie likely aims to create the most intricate and formidable boss yet, one that truly poses a threat to the entire universe.
In addition, the recent Destiny 2 showcase provided more insights into the upcoming DLC. Notably, The Final Shape will introduce three new super abilities and a new enemy type called Subjugators. Furthermore, Bungie will be shifting to an episodic content model for post-launch content following The Final Shape.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
