Initially underestimated, Sampo is a mercenary character in Honkai: Star Rail who proves to be an intriguing addition to any Trailblazer's team. As a Nihility character, his focus is on weakening and damaging enemies through DoT damage, with Wind Sheer being his specialty. While he may not appear as impressive as some of his Nihility counterparts at first, a properly built and equipped Sampo can be highly effective. However, his true value lies in his ability to consistently apply wind sheer, which requires proper set-up to achieve. By investing in the right build and focusing on his traces as they progress through the game, players can enhance Sampo's effectiveness and make him a valuable asset in endgame content such as the Forgotten Hall. Thankfully, there are various light cone options available, both free-to-play and otherwise, that can work effectively for Sampo.
5 Fermata
Base ATK (LVL 80):
476
Base DEF (LVL 80):
330
Base HP (LVL 80):
952
Effect
: Increases Break Effect dealt by the wearer by
16%/20%/24%/28%/32%
, and increases their DMG to enemies afflicted with Shock or Wind Shear by
16%/20%/24%/28%/32%
. This also applies to DoT.
Fermata can be a game-changer for Sampo, as it is one of the few 4-star free-to-play options that can fully utilize his potential. This light cone can be easily obtained and maxed out by collecting enough Lucent Afterglow primarily through Forgetten Hall, which provides numerous benefits to Sampo's gameplay. With Fermata, not only does Sampo's Break Effect stat increase, but his damage against enemies affected by Wind Shear, a debuff he frequently applies, also gets boosted. As a result, Fermata significantly enhances Sampo's DPS potential and allows him to function effectively as a sub-DPS character when built correctly.
4 Good Night And Sleep Well
Base ATK (LVL 80):
476
Base DEF (LVL 80):
330
Base HP (LVL 80):
952
Effect
: For every debuff the target enemy has, the DMG dealt by the wearer increases by
12%/15%/18%/21%/24%
Equipping Good Night And Sleep Well can enhance Sampo's sub-DPS potential, especially when the enemy is affected by various debuffs. This 4-star option is particularly useful when used in conjunction with other characters capable of inflicting DoT damage, such as Serval with her Shock ability, or alongside other Nihility characters that deal different types of debuffs like slow. It can greatly amplify Sampo's overall damage output, making it a valuable asset in both regular battles and in the Nihility path in Simulated Universe.
3 Before the Tutorial Mission
Base ATK (LVL 80):
476
Base DEF (LVL 80):
330
Base HP (LVL 80):
952
Effect
: Increases the wearer’s Effect Hit Rate by
20%/25%/30%/35%/40%
. When the wearer attacks DEF-reduced enemies, regenerates
4/5/6/7/8
Energy.
Before the Tutorial presents itself as a suitable free-to-play choice for Sampo, albeit limited to Honkai: Star Rail event. By participating in this event, players can efficiently max superimpose this light cone, resulting in a significantly high effect hit rate that enhances Sampo's Wind Sheer affliction. However, it is important to consider that this option may be more appropriate for Pela, given her ability to independently reduce the enemies' DEF due to her kit. Nevertheless, players who utilize both Sampo and Pela in a team where Pela is equipped with a more suitable option, such as Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat, can still benefit from equipping Before the Tutorial on Sampo. Alternatively, even the first part of the effect alone is strong enough for players to consider, particularly if they are seeking an entirely free-to-play option.
2 Eyes of the Prey
Base ATK (LVL 80):
476
Base DEF (LVL 80):
330
Base HP (LVL 80):
952
Effect
: Increases Effect Hit Rate of its wearer by
20%/25%/30%/35%/40%
and increases DoT by
24%/30%/36%/42%/48%
Eyes of the Prey is a perfect fit for Sampo's artwork and a great light cone option to pair with it. Its unconditional effect makes it a versatile choice for any team composition featuring Sampo. It also proves to be valuable for players who haven't invested much in maximizing Sampo's relic stats, thanks to its flat Effect Hit Rate and DoT DMG. This helps Sampo apply Wind Sheer more consistently and strongly, resulting in increased damage with less effort than other 4-star light cone options.
1 In the Name of the World
Base ATK (LVL 80):
582
Base DEF (LVL 80):
463
Base HP (LVL 80):
1058
Effect
: Increases the wearer’s DMG to debuffed enemies by
20%/25%/30%/35%/40%
. When the wearer uses their Skill, the Effect Hit Rate for this attack increases by
20%/25%/30%/35%/40%
, and ATK increases by
20%/25%/30%/35%/40%
.
The 5-star light cone, In the Name of the World, is an excellent fit for Sampo, complementing his kit seamlessly without imposing any difficult conditions to enhance his utility. This light cone is particularly advantageous for players who intend to primarily use Sampo for high Wind Sheer DoT. In addition to increasing Sampo's Effect Hit Rate, which allows him to apply Wind Sheer more consistently, it also boosts his ATK and overall damage against debuffed enemies, aligning well with Sampo's playstyle. Therefore, In the Name of the World is the top choice for a 5-star light cone and arguably the best overall, though players may also consider Incessant Rain from Silver Wolf's limited banner 5-star light cone. However, it's worth noting that while Incessant Rain can be effective on Sampo, it may be better utilized on other Nihility characters, so it's not worth pulling solely for Sampo.
