HoYoverse's latest gacha game, Honkai: Star Rail, has been receiving a lot of attention since its release last month, especially from the Genshin Impact community who have taken a liking to this new space RPG. Despite having a standalone storyline that can be played independently from its older sibling, Honkai: Star Rail has numerous connections to Genshin Impact that have been canonically proven by HoYoverse.
It's important to note, however, that Honkai: Star Rail is not a sequel to Genshin Impact, just as Genshin Impact was not a sequel to the first game in the Honkai Universe, Honkai Impact 3rd. Rather, all three games coexist together and are not directly related to one another.

The Imaginary Tree is a complex concept that ties together Honkai: Star Rail, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Impact 3rd. First introduced in Honkai Impact 3rd, the tree is believed to have emerged from the unfathomable depths and boundaries of the Sea of Quanta. While it is a physical place in Honkai Impact 3rd, Honkai: Star Rail has only acknowledged it as a theory thus far.
To simplify the concept, we can focus on the leaves of the Imaginary Tree. Each leaf represents an independent world, with Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd being just two examples. It's important to note that the bubble universes in Honkai: Star Rail, including Jarilo-VI and Xianzhou Luofu, are actually worlds that exist within the same leaf and are not independent leaves themselves.

There have been speculations that HoYoverse may create a crossover event, incorporating characters from Genshin Impact into the world of Honkai: Star Rail. The possibility of an interaction between the Astral Express conductor, Pom-Pom, and the deuteragonist, Paimon, could result in some humorous dialogue. Additionally, there are indications that the characters in the space RPG may be more closely related to Genshin Impact than previously thought.
At the start of Genshin Impact, the Traveler lands in Teyvat after a confrontation with the Unknown God in another world. It is plausible that they arrived from Honkai: Star Rail, as it has been confirmed that the Traveler possesses "tremendous and strange" powers that may resonate with the paths in Honkai: Star Rail more than with the Archons. The Unknown God, who is believed to be the ruler of Celestia, has the ability to separate realities and universes.
It is possible that the enigmatic Unknown God may appear in Honkai: Star Rail. The game has already introduced Welt Yang, a character from Honkai Impact 3rd's universe, as a playable crew member of the Astral Express. Though uncertain as to how he arrived, Yang is actively seeking a way to return home, which may involve the Unknown God manipulating reality.
While there is much speculation as to whether these two universes will intersect, concrete details regarding Honkai: Star Rail are still scarce. However, given time, it is possible that the futuristic sci-fi world of Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact may cross paths in upcoming chapters and updates.
Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation version is currently in development.
