What is the Swarm Disaster in Honkai: Star Rail?
Swarm Disaster is a new, permanent mode called Simulated Universe in Honkai: Star Rail Version 1.3. It introduces The Swarm, a faction of flying insects with four wings that originates from Tazzyronth, the Aeon of Propagation and the original creator of the Swarm Disaster. According to the in-game data of Honkai: Star Rail, Tazzyronth's reign as an Aeon was short-lived. It is believed that they were born out of the loneliness caused by the disappearance of Long the Permanence. Eventually, they transformed into a horrifying creature that could replicate itself, leading to the emergence of the Swarm Disaster. As the Swarm Disaster began to pose a threat to the entire universe, Tazzyronth was destroyed by the other Aeons.
In Swarm Disaster, players will experience the same roguelike mechanics as the regular Simulated Universe stages. They will explore various domains, collecting Blessings and Curios along the way to gain significant buffs. The main difference is that after successfully clearing a domain, players will have the opportunity to use the Communing Device to roll an Audience Die. This will provide different effects that could prove valuable as they face powerful monsters, including the formidable boss known as Swarm: True Sting.
Swarm Disaster will consist of five difficulties, with the final one (Torturous Difficulty) presenting formidable challenges and obstacles. Once players have successfully completed all chapters of Swarm Disaster and the adventure mission "Swarm Disaster: The End," they will unlock the Path of Propagation. This will be the eighth Path to be introduced in the Simulated Universe.
As for Honkai: Star Rail, the specific Blessings for the Path of Propagation have not been revealed. However, considering Tazzyronth's nature as a frightening creature capable of self-duplication and leading an insect horde, it is possible that one of the Blessings could involve damage stacking or damage over time. It would also be intriguing to witness the appearance of a swarm of insects if players activate Propagation's Path Resonance.
Players will be rewarded with various items upon completing each stage of the Simulated Universe: Swarm Disaster in Honkai: Star Rail. These rewards include Stellar Jades, regular Star Rail Passes, Trailblazer Level EXP, and more. Additionally, players can earn upgrade materials and credits as Chapter Collection Rewards and Trail of Pathstrider Unlock Rewards.
Swarm Disaster not only introduces new Worlds to the familiar Simulated Universe, but it also serves as a unique way to incorporate the lore of Tazzyronth into the game without relying on lengthy text. There is a possibility that HoYoverse will implement this mechanic for other Honkai: Star Rail Aeons in future updates. This is particularly relevant as rumors suggest the introduction of new Paths and playable characters in the coming months. Honkai: Star Rail fans should prepare for the challenges of Swarm Disaster.
Honkai: Star Rail is now available on Mobile and PC. A PS5 version is in development.
