The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet introduces a new area for trainers to explore. It also brings back Pokemon from previous generations and now has compatibility with Pokemon HOME, making it easier to obtain Pokemon. In the Kitakami area, trainers can find Phantump and its evolution, Trevenant, which are needed to complete the Kitakami Pokedex. These Ghost/Grass-types shouldn't pose much of a challenge for trainers with a team of Pokemon around level 55/70.
Where to Find Phantump
Phantump can be found in the Timeless Woods, located in the northeast corner of the map. To reach this area, you can either head east from Paradise Barrens or north from Kitakami Hall. It is important to note that trainers will not typically visit the Timeless Woods as part of the Teal Mask's main story. However, if they take on the Blood Moon Ursaluna side quest from Perrin, they will need to visit this area.
The Pokemon in the Timeless Woods have their levels scaled accordingly, but they will not drop below level 53. However, if Scarlet/Violet players have already completed the "The Way Home" main quest, the Timeless Woods Pokemon will be leveled at around 74.
Content should be rewritten as follows:
Phantump is a Pokemon that can be found at level 50 or level 71. It is more common to encounter Phantump at night, but Ghost-type Pokemon can also appear during the day, although less frequently. There is a chance to find lower-leveled Phantump (level 30) in the Kitakami Wilds, a patch of land between Paradise Barrens and Timeless Woods.
Trainers should have a fair chance of catching Phantump as its catch rate is not particularly low. Using a Quick Ball is recommended for a higher chance of success. During nighttime encounters, a Dusk Ball is also a good option. When battling Phantump, it is advisable to avoid using powerful attacks as its Defense is lacking. Furthermore, keep in mind that Phantump is immune to Normal-type attacks due to its Ghost typing. To increase the chances of capturing Phantump, try inflicting a status ailment before using a Poke Ball.
Another approach for obtaining Phantump is to search for it in 3-star Tera Raids. It is worth noting that a Phantump encountered in a Tera Raid may possess a Tera-typing that differs from those found in the wild, as the latter are typically Ghost or Grass types. Similar to all Pokemon encountered in 3-star Raids, it is possible for a Raid Phantump to possess its Hidden Ability: Harvest.
How to Evolve Phantump into Trevenant
Traded within Scarlet/Violet, Phantump metamorphoses into Trevenant. In order to engage in trades, players must obtain a Nintendo Online Membership Subscription. Once acquired, they can utilize the Poke Portal found in the pause-menu (X-button) of Scarlet/Violet. Through this interface, players can select Link Trade and Set Code to exchange with a friend.
Where to Find Trevenant in the Wild
Those unable to trade can instead capture a Terastallized Trevenant in the Timeless Woods. This particular Trevenant can be found near the center of the woods (indicated by the orange flag in the image above). Trainers will have the opportunity to battle and defeat the Trevenant before attempting to capture it. The Terastallized Trevenant is of the Tera-typing, which is considered Normal, thus removing its typical vulnerability to Ghost-type moves. In order to successfully capture it, players must lower its HP to one quarter, causing it to lose its Terastallization. It can then be captured.
Typically, Trevenant is vulnerable to Fire and Dark-type moves. However, the Normal-type Trevenant is specifically weak against Fighting-type moves. It is important to keep this in mind when weakening it in battle.
Getting Phantump & Trevenant with Pokemon HOME
An alternative approach to obtaining Trevenant without trading is to utilize Pokemon HOME for transferring one from a different game. Since both Pokemon can be found in Sword/Shield, players who have captured one in Generation 8 have the option to transfer it to Generation 9. Additionally, another method of acquiring these Pokemon is to capture and evolve a Phantump in Pokemon GO. The frequency of encountering these Pokemon in GO increases notably during the Halloween season.
To transfer a Pokemon from GO to HOME:
Make sure the HOME account is linked to GO.
After completion, navigate to GO's Settings and proceed to Connected Devices and Services. From there, select Pokemon HOME and utilize the Transporter Device to transfer Trevenant. The transferred Trevenant can then be retrieved in the HOME application on the Nintendo Switch.
If transferring a Trevenant from Sword/Shield:
Make sure the Trevenant is in one of Sword/Shield's PC Boxes.
Save, then open Sword/Shield in HOME and move it to the Basic Box.
Save and exit, then open Scarlet/Violet (in HOME) to move Trevenant from the Basic Box to a PC Box.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are available for Nintendo Switch.
