With the recent Festival of the Lost, players can now obtain a Lost Memento by completing three objectives. Further copies of the shader can then be obtained through farming. Since the Festival of the Lost lasts only three weeks, players who wish to acquire this new addition must act swiftly to complete activities and obtain subsequent copies.

Opinions on whether locking the all-black shader behind a memento was a good decision are divided among players on the Destiny subreddit. Some fans argue that Bungie shouldn't have restricted the highly sought-after cosmetic to crafted weapons alone, as this excludes other guns, such as those from the Festival of the Lost, as well as armor, ships, sparrows, and ghosts.
